ITV airs the 14th episode of Ace Of Wands, starring Michael McKenzie, Tony Selby and Judy Loe, opening the series’ second season. Russell Hunter guest stars as Mr. Stabs. This episode, like the rest of the series’ first two seasons, is now missing from the archives, but studio photos, shooting scripts, and a very rough audio recording still exist. 
Threshold Records releases the Moody Blues album Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, featuring the single “The Story In Your Eyes”.

ITV airs the 24th episode of Gerry & Sylvia Anderson’s sci-fi series UFO, starring Edward Bishop. James Cosmo (Braveheart, Highlander) guest stars. UFO is removed from ITV’s schedule with two episodes left to air; the remaining episodes are not aired until 1973.
The Apollo 15 mission lifts off, carrying astronauts David Scott, James Irwin and Al Worden on a 12-day mission to the moon and back. Aboard the lunar module Falcon, Scott and Irwin become, respectively, the seventh and eighth men to walk on the moon, exploring the mountainous Hadley Rille region, while Worden pilots the command/service module Endeavour. The service module for this mission is equipped with a suite of sensors and instruments designed to be exposed to space in lunar orbit. Scott and Irwin become the first men to drive on the moon, covering over seven miles in the first lunar rover “moon buggy.”
