Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Trials And Tribble-ations

Star Trek: Deep Space NineThe week-long national syndication window opens for the 102nd episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Though this is DS9’s heavily-publicized tribute to the original Star Trek, the fifth season’s start date occurred well after the actual anniversary (September 8th), so the episode is saved for the all-important November ratings sweeps. Charlie Brill is the sole cast member of the original Trouble With Tribbles episode, whose footage the DS9 episode uses and alters extensively, to shoot new scenes. Read more

SF writer Jerry Sohl dies

Corbomite ManeuverLegendary SF writer Jerry Sohl dies at the age of 88. Aside from writing a number of seminal novels in the genre including “The Lemon Eaters”, Mr. Sohlalso wrote The Corbomite Maneuver episode of the original Star Trek series, as well as installments of Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He was also a member of the “Green Hand” collective of golden-age SF writers (including such august members as Rod Serling, George Clayton Johnson, Robert Bloch and Richard Matheson) who threw their lot in with the fans to save Star Trek from cancellation by NBC after its first season.
