Out Of This World: The Tycoons

Out Of This WorldBritish broadcaster ABC airs the 13th and final episode of science fiction anthology series Out Of This World. Adapted by Bruce Stewart from a story by Arthur Sellings, the story stars Ronald Fraser and Jill Curzon, and is introduced by Boris Karloff. This episode no longer exists in the archives, and is the final episode of the series. Out Of This World story editor Irene Shubik, a protege of Sydney Newman, will join Newman at the BBC and become both story editor and producer of a similar science fiction anthology, Out Of The Unknown.

Ghost StoryNBC airs the third episode of the supernatural anthology series Ghost Story, produced by 1960s horror movie mogul William Castle and starring Sebastian Cabot. Gena Rowlands guest stars in a script based on a short story by Elizabeth Walter, and directed by future Superman movie director Richard Donner. (This series will be retitled Circle Of Fear in 1973.) The Starlost: Voyage Of Discovery

The StarlostAfter months of preparation and contentious saber-rattling by series creator Harlan Ellison, who demands to have his name replaced with a pseudonym after quitting the series he devised, The Starlost premieres in Canada and the United States with the episode Voyage Of Discovery, showcasing an intriguing (but ultimately under-utilized) series premise with a shockingly low-budget, shot-on-video look. It’s the first science fiction series produced in Canada with the intention of broadcast in the United States, which would become a common practice in the 21st century. It runs for only a single, truncated season, and for many years is much-maligned as “the worst TV sci-fi series ever”; Ellison’s complaints about the treatment of his own creation in the years to come do little to dispel this perception.
