Streaming service Paramount Plus releases the 22nd episode of the Star Trek prequel series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. Cillian O’Sullivan (Daredevil: Born Again, Then You Run), Rhys Darby (Flight Of The Conchords), and John de Lancie (Star Trek: The Next Generation) guest star.
Stardate 2251.7: Having sustained heavy damage in the battle with the Gorn, the Enterprise has been undergoing repairs for three months at Starbase 1, where the crew will be on hand for the Federation’s centennial celebration. With time having passed since the Gorn incident, La’an has decided to try to move on from the trauma that resurfaced from that encounter, and is giving Spock dance lessons, only to lose her student to a message that Nurse Chapel is returning to the Enterprise. In the transporter room, a brief sensor reading of something unusual catches Scotty’s eye, but if sensors could pick up interpersonal awkwardness, they’d be overwhelmed by Spock awaiting Chapel’s arrival with a gift in hand for her, only to be greeted by Chapel and Dr. Roger Korby, who is not only her instructor but now her romantic interest as well. Lt. Ortegas welcomes her younger brother aboard, who is a filmmaker documenting the centennial, but once meets Uhura, there’s an instant connection, putting Ortegas on edge. A bartender aboard the Enterprise serves Spock what he promises will be a life-changing drink – literally, as Spock wakes up the next morning with Christine in his bed, and they’re engaged to be married. For the Enterprise crew, nothing has changed – the entire ship has been planning for the happy occasion. After an incident in which Korby provokes genuine rage in Spock, both men realize that reality has been altered – and they’re the only ones who realize it. One member of the crew is singled out as a potential cause of the problem: Spock’s wedding planner, who seems to have plans of his own, and will tolerate no interference with those plans.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds main theme by Jeff Russo
Cast: Anson Mount (Captain Christopher Pike), Ethan Peck (Lt. Spock), Jess Bush (Nurse Christine Chapel), Christina Chong (Lt. La’an Noonien Singh), Celia Rose Gooding (Ensign Uhura), Melissa Navia (Lt. Erica Ortegas), Babs Olusanmokun (Dr. M’Benga), Martin Quinn (Lt. Scott), Rebecca Romijn (Commander Una Chin-Riley), John de Lancie (Q), Cillian O’Sullivan (Dr. Roger Korby), Rhys Darby (Trelaine), Melanie Scrofano (Captain Batel), Dan Jeannotte (Lt. Sam Kirk), Mynor Luken (Umberto Ortegas), Chris Myers (Ensign Campbell), Myles Dobson (Young Vulcan Bartender), Kira Guldien (Kelzing), Alex Kapp (USS Enterprise Computer), Ron Kennell (R’Ongovian Delegate)
Notes: Chronologically, this is the first appearance of Dr. Roger Korby, who has made a single prior appearance in filmed Star Trek media (What Are Little Girls Made Of?, 1966), which already established his betrothal to Nurse Chapel. But it’s also the first appearance of two other Star Trek characters: Trelaine (The Squire Of Gothos, 1967),
and Q, who makes his first 23rd century appearance here but would become much more involved with events in Star Trek: The Next Generation’s 24th century. An implied relationship between Q and Trelaine has been a topic of speculation (and licensed novels) for decades, but this would appear to be the first on-screen confirmation that the two similar entities are related. Of the three characters, only Q has not been recast, with John de Lancie adding another modern Trek appearance to his roster (he has already guest starred in Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks). Brief shots of Trelaine inspecting altered reflections explain why neither Spock nor any other crewmembers still on board during Kirk’s tour of duty remember Trelaine in Squire. Guests in the wedding party include Bolians and R’Ongovians (last seen in Spock Amok in season 1).
