A matter of the utmost gravity

This has been bugging me a bit. Everyone is going on about this trailer, and don’t get me wrong, it’s dizzying and eye-popping and all that.

WOW… scary, right? I totally cringe when the shuttle takes a hit. But now I know what’s been bothering me. What is it? Well, delete space junk and trashed Hubble, and add Klingons, and you get:

…and, you know, I’m sure there’s a movie about a shipwreck and the only two people who had lifejackets that predates that by a good few years.

In any case, having been let down to a dire degree by Star Trek: Into Darkness, the only “space” movie I’m really jonesing for during the latter half of 2013 is this:

Yes. Sharlto Copley from District 9? Hell yeah, sign me up for just about anything* that he shows up in. That movie was awesome (and awesomely disturbing), and it all hinged on his performance. I was able to completely relate to that character from my own experiences of mutating into a human-insect hybrid.**

Anyway, there ya go. Would you rather watch a fictional shuttle get trashed, or a fictional mission to Europa? (Actually, I’d rather watch a real mission to Europa, thankyouverymuch.)

* had to draw the line at The A-Team remake, though… sorry, Sharlto.

** we don’t talk about this much around the house
