The 204th episode of Sam Rolfe’s western series Have Gun – Will Travel is broadcast on CBS in the United States, starring Richard Boone. This episode is written by future Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.
Paladin visits the town of Sweetwater, which has of late acquired a reputation for law and order, finding that his old Army Scout brother-in-arms Tom Carey has settled in as the local lawman. But Marshal Carey’s one-man fight to keep crime away from the city limits has had the side-effect of laying down the law in all matters, even those not related to criminal activity. If the locals are resentful of Carey, they dare not speak up about it; when one man does, Carey goads him into a duel and guns him down with the entire town watching. His next goal is to drive the new owner of the local saloon out of business and out of town. Paladin decides to challenge his old friend’s approach to keeping order, and finds himself with a new, deadly enemy.
