The monolithic machine suffers from technical problems from the outset, resulting in recalls and repairs to most early adopters’ Apple III units. With barely 100,000 units sold over three years, Apple pulls the Apple III off the market before 1984 is out.

Babylon 5’s change of command

Michael O'HareBabylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski announces to fans on the GEnie online service that a new commander character is being created and cast for the show’s second season, following an amicable decision to part ways with actor Michael O’Hare, who played Commander Jeffrey Sinclair in the series’ first season. The possibility of O’Hare returning as a guest star to continue Sinclair’s story is also raised. Details of the new character, and the actor playing that character, are still under wraps.

Space ShuttleSpace Shuttle Endeavour lifts off on the 77th shuttle mission, a ten-day flight to perform experiments in the cargo-bay-mounted SPACEHAB module, and a test of a free-flying inflatible antenna system. The crew also communicates with astronaut Shannon Lucid aboard Mir, though Endeavour and Mir are in different orbits. Aboard Endeavour for her 11th flight are Commander John Casper, Pilot Curtis Brown, and mission specialists Daniel Bursch, Mario Runco, Marc Garneau and Andrew Thomas.
