Strange Report: Report 4977: Swindle – Square Root of Evil

Strange ReportITV airs the 16th and final episode of the mystery/spy-fi series Strange Report in the U.K., starring Anthony Quayle, Kaz Garas, and Anneke Wills (Doctor Who). An international co-production with Norman Felton’s Arena Productions and NBC, Strange Report was intended to spend the second half of its season in the United States, but arrangements between ITV and Arena Productions fell through, ending the series’ run prematurely.

Soyuz 17

SalyutSoyuz 17 is launched by the Soviet Union, carring cosmonauts Alexei Gubarev and Georgi Grechko to the Salyut 4 space station. The two men move into the station for a month-long stay, breaking the previous Soviet space record, and proceed to conduct several science experiments. Discovering that the mirror of Salyut 4’s on-board telescope is warped, the crew resurfaces it in orbit and repairs the telescope. When Soyuz 17 returns to Earth, the crew is in for one of the bumpiest landings of the Soviet space program to date, landing in a blizzard with 45mph winds at ground level. Despite this, the vehicle lands safely and the crew is not injured.

Over nine days, Endeavour’s crew retrieves a Japanese satellite for return to Earth while deploying a NASA experiment which flies as far as 45 miles away from the shuttle for two days before it, too, is retrieved. More spacewalk techniques and technologies are tried out for future space station construction. Aboard Endeavour for her tenth flight are Commander Brian Duffy, Pilot Brent Jett, and mission specialists Leroy Chiao, Daniel Barry, Winston Scott and Koichi Wakata.

SlidersSci-Fi Channel airs the 62nd episode of the science fiction series Sliders, starring Jerry O’Connell, Cleavant Derricks, Kari Wuhrer, and Charlie O’Connell. Mark Sheppard (Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica) guest stars.

RoboCop: Prime Directives: Meltdown

RoboCop: Prime DirectivesThe second movie-length installment episode of the miniseries RoboCop: Prime Directives airs on Space in Canada (the series will air in the U.S. on the Sci-Fi Channel in July). Starring Page Fletcher (The Hitchhiker), Maurice Dean Wint (Captain Power, TekWar, Psi Factor), Geraint Wyn-Davies (Forever Knight), and Maria Del Mar (Mercy Point), the series picks up the story of RoboCop over a decade after the original 1987 film. It is unrelated to the 1994 live-action series based on the same character, although this miniseries is produced by the same production company, exercising their TV rights to the character one last time before that option expires.
