In what has to be the most unexpected un-cancellation of a genre series since TNT picked up Babylon 5, CBS has announced that it will continue Jericho after all – as a limited mid-season run of eight episodes to air in 2008, starring the show’s original cast. After a fan campaign delivered literally tons of nuts to CBS’ doorstep, CBS relented and put Jericho back on the schedule – at least at midseason (meaning it won’t reappear until 2008) and with an order for only seven episodes to satisfactorily wrap up the show’s first season cliffhanger. CBS has issued a challenge to Jericho fans, however: it’s counting on them to rally the same kind of grassroots campaign around the show prior to its return, which makes it sound like it’ll be leaving it up to the fans to handle the burden of the show’s promotion to the general audience.
