Farscape Season 3

Taking the Stone

FarscapeA distressed Chiana is looking for some reassurance from her otherwise-occupied crewmates; their apparent disinterest motivates her to take a shuttle and head off of Moya. The others soon discover the source of her troubles – a life-disc that had kept her aware of her brother has blinked out, indicating his death. When Crichton, Rygel and Aeryn track her down to a nearby cemetery planet, they find her in no rush to return. Indeed, she’s found comfort with the group of young daredevils that live beneath the surface, and announces her intent to join in one of their rituals, a chasm dive called “taking the stone” that is sometimes but not always fatal, thanks to an intermittently functioning forcefield generator. For the natives, even death by the stone is an attractive option, since radiation poisoning means everyone will soon die a slow painful death anyway. Crichton refuses to accept any of this, searching for a way to prevent the radiation sickness and talk Chiana out of jumping. But it doesn’t seem like anyone’s interested in what solutions he might offer.

Lexx Season 3

Garden

LexxThe Lexx is less than a week away from crashing into either Fire or Water unless it receives food, and plenty of it. And it looks like they may be able to get it from a city called Garden on Water, where three women tend to a bountiful supply of food. Stanley is so enthralled with Garden – and especially its gardeners – that he begins to entertain thoughts of staying there rather than trying to salvage the Lexx. When the ladies offer to plant a dream for Stanley that will sprout into reality, Stan has them grow a new Lyekka. But just like the original, this Lyekka awakens with a ravenous appetite – and worse yet, balloons from Fire are en route to recapture the crew for Prince.

Crackers Don’t Matter

FarscapeWhile buying food on a commerce planet, the crew meets Traltixx, an alien who claims he can make Moya undetectable. A demonstration on Crichton’s module convinces the crew to bring the ship through a set of pulsar lights to his transformation yard, even when Traltixx warns them that the intense light can have a strange effect on many species. Zhaan certainly has no complaints, as the light brings her such intense pleasure that she soon shuts out everything else around her. Everyone else, however, gets more paranoid than ever, and unusually attached to the dry, flat wafers they’ve added to their food supply. Traltixx is no help, either. Indeed, he encourages Pilot to turn against the rest. Crichton must overcome his paranoia and the delusions that go with it – including visions of Scorpius – to rally the crew together and save the ship.

Battle

LexxThe attack on Garden is swift and deadly, and Lyekka is killed within moments. Stan and Kai see their moth lifting off, and Kai uses his brace to board the ship and throw its pilot out, but instead of Xev they find a bomb aboard the moth. Kai and Stan bail out, but Kai is able to attach himself to one of Prince’s balloons, and gets Stan to safety (after throwing that balloon’s crew overboard). Prince and one of his most loyal underlings, Priest, are holding Xev hostage on another balloon as a bargaining chip. But with Kai gaining altitude – a position from which he can attack any of Prince’s balloons – Prince must count on Priest to make a supreme sacrifice for the sake of victory. As the stakes rise, both Prince’s army and the crew of the Lexx discover the limits of their loyalty, their sacrifice, and their endurance.

Picture If You Will

FarscapeChiana and Rygel return to Moya from a trading expedition with an added gift, a picture that appears to depict Chiana. The picture unnerves Zhaan, especially when it changes to depict Chiana with a broken leg and Chiana breaks hers soon after. When the next change shows Chiana burst into flames, everyone shares Zhaan’s concerns – but they’re too late to stop Chiana’s combustion. As the portrait begins to depict the rest of the crew’s demise, Zhaan manages to deduce the picture’s true purpose. Instead of killing them, it’s drawing them into another dimension, where the sorcerer Maldis waits for his chance to avenge his previous defeat and, just as importantly, regain corporeal form.

Girltown

LexxXev has escaped the balloon battle by riding a stray gondola through the atmospheric interface and onto the surface of Fire, and Stanley and Kai follow with little idea of her precise landing point. They do find what’s left of her balloon, and decide to scout for her at the nearest town on Fire – a place known as Girltown. Within the town’s walls, a strange drama of gender reversal appears to be playing itself out, as Kai discovers an oppressed population of men who seem to be fulfilling traditionally female roles. Stanley is captured and brought before Girltown’s ruler, the vicious Queen, only to realize that she may be Giggerota in disguise. Queen seems intrigued by the fact that Stanley hasn’t died yet – indeed, en route to Girltown, Kai admits that he has noticed that many of his enemies from the other universe seem to have resurfaced on Fire or Water in some form. Even when Kai and Xev arrive to rescue Stanley from what Queen says will be but the first of his many deaths, the rescue attempt goes horribly wrong, leaving Xev alone – with the key to the Lexx.

The Way We Weren’t

FarscapeChiana discovers an old recording that reveals the fate of Moya’s previous Pilot – he was killed by a squad of Peacekeepers under Crais’ command, a squad that included Aeryn. The discovery forces both Aeryn and Pilot to re-examine how they first came to Moya as part of Crais’ project to breed a Leviathan warship. Aeryn, stuck on guard duty while pursuing assignment as a fighter pilot, became involved with Velorek, the Peacekeeper Leviathan expert in charge of the project. Pilot, eager to be bonded with a ship, allowed the Peacekepers to mechanically bind him to Moya when she did not immediately accept him. In the present, overcome by guilt, Pilot demands that Aeryn leave the ship and detaches himself from Moya.

The Genocide Machine

Doctor Who: The Genocide MachineThe Doctor and Ace arrive on the rainforest world of Kar-Charrat, where expatriate Time Lord Elgin has become the librarian of the largest storehouse of knowledge in the universe. Elgin eagerly shows the Doctor his latest innovation: a wetworks facility which has assimilated all of this knowledge into a single consciousness. The Doctor is alarmed by this development, as it means that any invading force could take over the facility – and with it, all of the knowledge of the universe. Elgin admits that some races have tried to do exactly that, including the Daleks, but none have been successful. But the Doctor and Ace quickly learn on a first-hand basis that the Daleks haven’t given up – they intend to take over the library of Kar-Charrat and use the wetworks facility to create a new, all-knowing, all-powerful breed of Daleks. But the Daleks don’t achieve the desired results, even when the Doctor is forced to help – and everyone soon discovers that an even greater power than the Daleks exists on Kar-Charrat…a power which, if unleashed to rid the world of the mechanical invaders, could also exact revenge on a Time Lord guilty of enslaving Kar-Charrat’s indigenous creatures.
