Kitten caboodle III…IN 3-D

Nimitz!

Can you even believe this is the same kitten?

Lily and a kitten

This is Nimitz’s “mom”, Lily, with one of her (actual) kittens. She’s accepted Nimitz into her litter with no problem, and he’s accepted her as “mom” too. I don’t think anybody plans on pointing out the discrepancy of a super-sized kitten to either party anytime soon. It may not read this way in the pictures, but he is bigger than the rest of the litter – he’s something like 1.5x bigger than the other kittens. But they’re all cool with him being there, so it’s all good. Incidentally, I only discovered yesterday that Lily is the daughter of this stray cat who I rescued before Evan was born – what a coincidence, eh? (Not to mention that she looks uncannily like her mom.) I thought that was an interesting bit of stray cat karma there.

Nimitz will be there a few weeks longer as he and the other kittens are weaned and Lily puts them through “cat academy” – i.e. pouncing, stalking, playing, and generally learning to be cats. In the meantime, he cleans up nicely, doesn’t he? Here he is being used as a cushion by his smaller sisters and brothers. I like that resting-his-face-on-his-hand look that just says “Why do these guys have to lay on me?” He did pop out and come right to me when I visited, however – further confirming that this one can be filed under “meant to be.”

Nimitz, White Beauty and anonymous cat bro

If anyone local wants to adopt one of the other kittens, let me know, I can probably arrange something.
