1960s Season 1 Twilight Zone

Escape Clause

The Twilight ZoneConvinced that he’s on his deathbed every day, hypochondriac Walter Bedeker makes a deal with the devil: in exchange for his soul, Walter will be made healthy and immortal. He also has an escape clause: if he decides to renege on the deal for whatever reason, he will die. Walter immediately becomes the clumsiest man around, miraculously surviving numerous “accidents” in public places with many witnesses, and then suing for an insurance settlement. But the thrill of these incidents wears thin on him; he decides to commit a crime so heinous that he’ll get to experience (and survive) the electric chair. But when he’s sentenced to “mere” life in prison with no possibility of parole, will he be able to back out on his immortality?

Black Sun

Space: 1999A large but harmless asteroid is detected, but its course won’t even bring it close to the moon – until it suddenly changes direction and heads straight for the moon, coming close enough to extert tidal gravity on Moonbase Alpha itself before diverting again and exploding. The cause of the unusual gravity influence is discovered: a black hole close enough to divert even the moon from its path. With only three days left until the moon is swallowed, Professor Bergman devises a force field that could theoretically repel the immense gravitational stresses…but as a backup plan, Koenig has one Eagle stocked up with supplies and ready to ferry six people to safety as a lifeboat. And as the moon draws closer to the black hole, it begins to look as though the lifeboat plan offers the only chance of survival for anyone.

Ark II

Robin Hood

Ark IIWhen Jonah hears of a war heating up between two communities – one of which is led by a man who has assumed the mantle of Robin Hood – he cuts short Adam’s driving lessons and positions Ark II between the battling factions and raises its shields, preventing them from fighting. But the vehicle can’t stay between the enemies for long. Jonah takes off to try to talk to “Robin Hood” to bring him to the table for peace talks, but while he’s gone the rest of his crew is captured. “Robin”‘s enemies have control of Ark II and intend to put its power to use as a weapon.

Cast: Terry Lester (Jonah), Jean Marie Hon (Ruth), Jose Flores (Samuel), Richard Angarola (Lord Leslie), Johnny Ark IIDoran (Alan), Victor Rogers (Robin Hood), Alfie Wise (Big John), Lou Scheimer (voice of Adam)

Notes: This is one of the very few times in the series that any of the people visited by Ark II have motorized vehicles. The three-wheeled all-terrain vehicles used by Lord Leslie’s entourage, though very common now, weren’t a common sight in 1976. Also not common sights then, now or in the future: the Robin Hood costume and Lord Leslie’s very glittery, wizardly robes, both of which remained unnaturally clean in the desert-like dust of the post-apocalyptic future!

Season 1 Wonder Woman

The Feminum Mystique – Part 1

Wonder WomanMajor Trevor and Diana are present when Nazi agents attempt to hijack an experimental fighter plane, the XPJ-1. Unknown to everyone except Trevor and General Blankenship, the XPJ-1 can be destroyed by remote control; while they see to that, Diana transforms into Wonder Woman and rounds up other Nazis operating under cover at the airfield. Some of the Nazis, including Captain Radl, witness Wonder Woman in action – specifically, her bullet-deflecting bracelets. Diana is amazed when her younger sister, Drusilla, is waiting for her at her apartment, bearing a message from their mother to return to Paradise Island. Diane introduces a disguised Drusilla to General Blankenship, who offers her a tour of Valley Forge, a destination that the General and Drusilla never reach thanks to Captain Radl. Drusilla transforms into a new guise – Wonder Girl – to try to save General Blankenship, but she becomes a hostage instead.

Wonder WomanNotes: This is the first TV appearance for a 21-year-old Debra Winger, whose first movie appearance had debuted in theaters only days earlier. Though this first appearance of Wonder Girl would seem like it has “spinoff” written all over it, Drusilla would make only one further appearance after this two-parter; this was probably for the best for Winger’s career, as she would go on to be nominated three times for the Oscar for Best Lead Actress just a few years later, starting with 1983’s An Officer And A Gentleman.

Contact

Alien NationA prominent Caltech astronomer, who was one of the first humans to meet the Newcomers when they first arrived, is murdered the night before he plans to announce an exciting discovery. The scientist’s employer refuses to speak with Sikes and George, and they follow him to a rather exclusive club – one which excludes Newcomers. As it turns out, the major discovery was an unmanned space probe, one which originated from the same part of the sky as the Tenctonese slave ship. George fears that this probe could have been sent by the Overseers to search for the missing slaves, and if contact is made with the probe, it could lead the Overseers to Earth – at the behest of a surviving Overseer from the slave ship who has promised his masters not only the wayward Newcomers, but four billion new slaves…the entire human race.

Season 1 Xena: Warrior Princess

Prometheus

Xena: Warrior PrincessA group of bounty hunters attempt to kill Xena, but fail. One is hit in the throat with a dagger and Xena removes it and treats his wound. Later at an inn where she and Gabrielle have taken the man, loud screams are heard. The gods have chained Prometheus. Immediately mankind looses the gift of healing that they recieved from the great Titan. The next morning, Xena and Gabrielle head to a temple. Inside Xena recieves instructions from the oracle about how to free Prometheous. When she returns to Gabrielle, she asks what her friend would do if anything were to happen to her. Gab says she could become a bard, but doesn’t really want to discuss it further. They stop at a merchant’s tent to ask directions to Vulcan mountain. Xena asks Gabrielle to wait there for her. At the cave of Hephestus, Hera’s warriors chase after Xena. She finally loses all of them and finds the sword she has been looking for.

Returning to Argo, she is greeted by Hercules. He insists that she hand over the sword. She fights him briefly, and then leaps onto Argo and races off. While Gabrielle is waiting for Xena, Iolous arrives. The two talk briefly until Xena shows up. She warns Iolous not to follow them. They stop for a rest at a barn, and more of Hera’s warriors appear. Hercules and Iolous are also there and soon they have defeated the warriors. But one is still determined to stop them and he grabs the sword that Xena retrieved earlier. When he swings it at her, Hercules blocks the blow with his guantlet and the soldier disentigrates. The chains of Prometheus were made by Hephestus, just like Hercules’ guantlets, so whoever breaks the chains will meet with the same fate as the soldier.

The foursome have reached the mountain that Prometheous is chained upon and enter a cave. Zeus had once shown the caves to his son and he knows that it will be a shortcut to freeing the Titan. Not far into the cave, Gabrielle discovers that Iolous was wounded during the fight in the barn. At his insistance, she agrees not to tell the others. As they continue on, there is a cave-in. During the commotion, Gabrielle bumps into Iolous and aggravates his injury. She decides to break their agreement and tells Xena and Hercules about what happened to Iolous. They decide it would be best if he stayed behind and rest. Gabrielle agrees to stay with him. Xena and Hercules continue on, but soon the gift of fire is lost. Fortunately they have found the opening they will need to reach Prometheus. Hercules starts to climb up to it, but Xena knocks him out and takes the sword, and then begins to climb out of the cave.

Future’s End – Part I

Star Trek: VoyagerStardate not given: A brief encounter with a vessel whose lone occupant claims to be a Federation time scout from 500 years in the future results in a fierce firefight. The future captain describes a cataclysmic disaster in the 29th century resulting from an incident that Voyager is about to initiate. The timeship is damaged in the ensuing battle and falls back into the temporal rift through which it arrived, which also drags Voyager in. Voyager is taken back to Earth, 1996, and faint signs are detected of the timeship. Janeway, Chakotay, Paris and Tuvok beam down incognito to search for the wayward vessel, but unknown to them their own ship has been detected in orbit by an astronomy graduate named Rain Robinson. Rain contacts computer magnate Henry Starling, who is in possession of the timeship while its original occupant languishes on the streets of Los Angeles. Tom and Tuvok make their way to Griffith Observatory to erase Rain’s evidence of Voyager’s presence, but she catches them in the act and is hot on their trail as one of Starling’s employees attempts to kill them all. Janeway and Chakotay break into Starling’s office and discover that he has already contaminated the timeline, using the timeship’s technology to jump-start the computer revolution. Starling finds the uninvited guests and threatens them, but Harry, left in command of Voyager, rescues them just in time. But Starling still has the timeship – and worse yet, Voyager’s low-orbit rescue run has been detected by cameras on 20th century Earth.
