Kolchak The Night Stalker Season 1

The Sentry

Night StalkerA scientist’s discovery of a node containing strange blue nodules triggers a series of grisly deaths at an underground archival facility. Each victim is badly mauled, and the autopsy report indicates that they were bitten by some large animal. Sneaking into the facility, Kolchak discovers that the staff are leery of strange occurrences, and the military has taken in security. He himself witnesses a strange two-legged lizard creature and narrowly escapes. He is evicted from the facility, but does some research to discover that the lizards are phototropic (afraid of light). Realizing that the nodules are in fact eggs, Carl sneaks back in to the facility. The “sentry” has killed more people in its search, and Kolchak must return the eggs by risking his own life.

Season 07 Star Trek The Next Generation

Journey’s End

Star Trek: The Next GenerationStardate 47751.2: Wesley Crusher, on a sabattical from Starfleet Academy, has returned to the Enterprise in an attempt to recoup his energies in time to graduate. He is troubled by something which he has yet to reveal to anyone, but more pressing matters are on the mind of Picard and the crew as Starfleet orders the Enterprise to evacuate or otherwise remove a colony of Native American Indians who have settled on an isolated planet to preserve their culture. This planet is now due to be handed over to the Cardassians according to the terms of a treaty which realigns the borders of Federation and Cardassian space, and the Indian colonists will no longer be welcome. Tired of their history of being displaced by territorial bureaucracy, the Indians of Dorvin V decide to reshape the borders themselves to protect what they hold sacred – and they find a sympathizer in Wesley, who jeopardizes his Starfleet career to help them and learn more about them.

Notes: The creation of a demilitarized zone encompassing several Federation and Cardassian colonies has repercussions in the two-part Deep Space Nine story The Maquis, which itself provides a lead-in to Preemptive Strike and Star Trek: Voyager. This is Wil Wheaton’s final appearance in the TV series, though he returns – without explanation – in the background of Riker and Troi’s wedding at the beginning of Star Trek: Nemesis.

Big Finish Spinoffs Doctor Who The Audio Dramas UNIT

The Longest Night

UNIT: The Longest NightLt. Hoffman is caught in the middle of a terrorist bombing of a pub in London, but lives long enough to call Colonel Dalton and identify the attackers who sweep through the rubble, murdering survivors, as Scottish. Other attacks follow, and the media quickly dubs the night “Britain’s 9/11.” As Colonel Chaudhry races to meet reporter Francis Currie, who calls her claiming to know who’s behind the rapidly escalating series of attacks, Dalton listens as reports emerge in the news media about Muslim attackers – not Scottish. More suicide bombings take place, and Major Kirby of ICIS puts pressure on the Prime Minister to put Britain under martial law – and to put ICIS in charge. When Chaudhry meets Francis Currie, she’s amazed when the reporter tries to strangle her. She incapacitates him and finds that he’s under some form of mind control – and increasingly, it appears that all of the incidents involve similar mind control, all seemingly triggered by random phone calls from “help lines.” But Chaudhry and Dalton soon find that the trail leads to ICIS itself – and that even UNIT’s finest aren’t immune to the mind control.

Cast: Siri O’Neal (Colonel Emily Chaudhry), Nicholas Deal (Colonel Robert Dalton), Scott Andrews (Scott Christie), Sara Carver (Andrea Winnington), Robert Curbishley (Lieutenant Hoffman), Georgina Field (Nisha Townsend), Michael Hobbs (Francis Currie), Harry Myers (PM’s Aide), Steffan Rhodri (Prime Minister), Vineeta Rishi (Meena Cartwright), Johnson Willis (Major Philip Kirby)

Notes: The reference to Albion Hospital could be a nod toward the new 2005 series of Doctor Who; by the time this story was recorded, fan photos had leaked out showing a Cardiff location being redressed as “Albion Hospital” for the episode Aliens Of London, which also featured UNIT. Colonel Chaudhry’s reference to a “John Smith” situation is followed up by Colonel Dalton’s reference to shop dummies, an equally handy Auton reference; it’s unknown if this is a reference to a situation that has been connected to the Doctor, a situation that might be solved easier with the Doctor’s intervention, or something else. (“Doctor John Smith” was the alias used by the Doctor when the Brigadier put him on UNIT’s payroll in Spearhead From Space.) Reporter Francis Currie, sacked by the BBC, is now working for the Planet 3 network, which happens to be Sarah Jane Smith’s former employer in Big Finish continuity. Currie also mentions that a female reporter from Planet 3 exposed Major Kirby’s secret “a couple of years ago”, which may also have been Sarah.

Lost Season 3

Expose’

LostFlashback: Nikki and Paolo poison a Sydney television producer and steal millions of dollars in diamonds from his safe. Their getaway is somewhat hampered by the crash of Oceanic Flight 815. While other castaways worry about suitcases with guns and other intrigues, Nikki and Paolo search for the lost bag of diamonds. Along the way they discover the heroin smugglers’ plane – which they wisely decide not to climb into – and the Pearl hatch – to which Paolo later returns. He has found the diamonds, but decides to hide them from Nikki. While in the hatch, he sees Ben and Juliet observe Jack in the Swan hatch, and takes the walkie-talkie they leave behind. When Nikki learns of the subterfuge, she makes use of one of Dr. Artz’s specimens to paralyze Paolo and take the diamonds. But the insect tables are soon turned on her, and when she stumbles out of the jungle in front of Hurley and Sawyer, she can whisper only a single word before she collapses.

The Island: Sawyer and Hurley are playing ping pong when Nikki stumbles out of the jungle and collapses. She whispers something before her heart stops, which Hurley takes to mean “Paolo lies.” Further investigation reveals Paolo’s body lying in the jungle. As the castaways prepare to bury the two lovers, they try to figure out what killed them. Hurley tries to figure out why Sawyer seems to be hiding something about what he knows of the two. Sun believes that the Others might be involved, especially after Sawyer finds one of their walkie-talkies among Paolo’s equipment. Charlie confesses that he and Sawyer attacked Sun, not the Others. Sawyer admits his guilt and offers Sun the diamonds, but she refuses. In the end, Sawyer chooses to bury the diamonds with the still-paralyzed Nikki and Paolo.

Discovery Season 2 Star Trek

Perpetual Infinity

Star Trek: DiscoveryStardate not given: Burnham comes to aboard Discovery and learns that she wasn’t hallucinating: the Red Angel has been captured and immobilized, and inside the time-crystal-powered suit was Dr. Gabrielle Burnham, believed to have died over 20 years ago in a Klingon attack. However, Burnham’s mother was also rendered unconscious by the extreme means used to capture the Red Angel suit, and Burnham herself must stay aboard Discovery until her treatment for exposure to both the elements on Essof IV and the burst of tachyon radiation generated by the Red Angel is completed. On the Section 31 ship, Georgiou begins to suspect that something is amiss with Captain Leland. What neither she nor Tyler know is that he has been taken over by Control, and the man they knew before is essentially dead. “Leland” concocts a cover story that Dr. Burnham is a vessel for Control, and orders Tyler to obtain the data Discovery holds from the spherical repository of alien knowledge encountered earlier. Dr. Burnham refuses to speak to her own daughter, instead opting to demand that Captain Pike delete the alien sphere data from Discovery‘s computer to avoid Section 31’s Control AI from ever using that knowledge to evolve. But the sphere data has asserted itself within Discovery‘s main computer, protecting itself from deletion – and leaving the door open to a future in which Control destroys all life in the galaxy.

Nilsson), Arista Arhin (young Burnham)

Notes: Dr. Burnham knows of the fate that awaits Captain Pike in his future (Star Trek: The Menagerie Part 1), but says nothing more than that. No one in 23rd century Starfleet seems to be aware of time travel’s role in Starfleet’s past and future (see Star Trek: Enterprise), so presumably Captain Jonathan Archer took what he knew of the Temporal Cold War to his grave.
