Similitude

Star Trek: EnterpriseCritically injured by an explosion in engineering, Trip is left in a coma. The Enterprise becomes ensnared in a phenomenon that’s gradually covering the ship’s hull with energy-draining particles. Dr. Phlox is less than optimistic about the chief engineer’s chances of survival by conventional means, and offers the captain an unorthodox solution – growing a clone by using a mimetic creature that will grow to maturity in less than a week, and die in 15 days. Phlox hopes to replace a damaged portion of Trip’s brain with the identical tissue removed from his clone. But in the week it takes to raise and teach the clone, the crew becomes more attached to it than they expected – and when the critical moment arises, Trip’s clone would rather live out the few days left to him than serve as a source of donor organ tissue for Trip himself.

Zagreus

Doctor Who: ZagreusImbued with the energy of anti-time and possessed by the power-mad Zagreus, the Doctor wrestles for self-control and terrifies Charley into hiding within the TARDIS. A familiar face appears to Charley as she hides – the Brigadier, or, more precisely, a TARDIS-projected simulation of Lethbridge-Stewart intended to help her. Its method of doing so, however, is unorthodox to put it mildly: Charley must divine the true nature of the increasingly disastrous situation from a series of metaphors, ranging from her own childhood to a visit to Gallifrey’s past to an insane amusement park where animatronic cartoon characters are slaughtering one another. The Doctor, too, hears from some familiar voices in his own past, coaxing him to regain control of his own mind. But all too late, the Doctor realizes that his body and soul are not Zagreus’ only battleground, and the real battle for the fate of the entire universe is only now being joined.

The Wormery

Doctor Who: The WormeryThe Doctor emerges from his trial a changed man – and a very melancholy one. Seeking a bit of refuge to contemplate recent events, he happens upon Bianca’s, an exclusive nightclub in World War II-era Berlin, but even as he tries to relax, he notices that things may not be as they appear. Worse yet, even as he tries to piece together what’s going on, Iris Wildthyme staggers into Bianca’s as well, shattering any hope the Doctor may have had of discreetly investigating the mystery.

Libby, pregnant with Jeremiah’s child, insists on going along, though he is troubled by his latest revelation from God. Battlestar Galactica (New Series) Miniseries

Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar GalacticaForty years after an armistice was signed with the Cylons, a race of cybernetic servants created to aid man, a neutral space station set aside for peaceful negotiations – but never visited by a Cylon representative – is ambushed and destroyed by Cylon forces.

Battlestar Galactica is en route to its decommissioning from regular service. Long since surpassed on a technological level by newer craft, the gigantic Galactica will become a museum commemorating the era of open warfare between humanity and the Cylons; Galactica’s Commander, Adama, delivers a speech at the ship’s decommissioning ceremony warning against becoming complacent against the Cylons. Adama is also grappling with some personal demons as well – his eldest son, Lee “Apollo” Adama, has arrived to participate in the ceremony, leading a symbolic flight of Colonial Viper fighters, another spacecraft retired from service after the Cylon wars. The reunion of father and son is awkward, as the two have barely spoken since Adama’s younger son, Zac, died on patrol.

On the planet Caprica, the seat of the Colonial government, cybernetics expert Dr. Gaius Baltar has been engaging in an affair with a woman who later admits to being a Cylon – but not the kind of Cylon anyone has ever seen before. She’s almost completely indistinguishable from any human. And she has used Baltar’s access to Caprica’s computer networks to render the Colonies’ defenses useless. A massive Cylon assault begins, as the surface of Caprica is peppered with thermonuclear weapons. Even the most advanced Colonial fighters prove useless in the fight, their integrated computer systems wiped out by a previously unknown Cylon weapon. Baltar is led to safety by the Cylon woman known as Number Six, his role in the fall of Caprica known only to himself – and even after they’re separated when Baltar boards a rescue ship, he continues to see and speak to visions of her. The ship he is taken to is also where Education Secretary Laura Roslin was when the Cylons attacked – and the attacks have destroyed so much of the Colonial government that she’s now next in line to assume the Presidency. Apollo is also on that ship, having escorted Roslin away from the decommissioning ceremony in his father’s aging Viper – and having discovered in the process that the decommissioned fighters, which lack integrated systems, are immune to the Cylons’ secret weapon.

The military command structure has also collapsed, any most of the Battlestar fleet has fallen, leaving Commander Adama in charge of what’s left of the military. Adama orders an immediate course for the Ragnar system, a turbulent nebula into which a Colonial munitions depot is tucked away, dating back to the original Cylon conflict. When Galactica arrives, Adama’s crew finds weapons aplenty to rearm the ship – but there’s also a lone human aboard. An accident with some of the munitions leaves him trapped with Adama, who discovers that the man is a Cylon – something that the rescued Baltar hasn’t shared with anyone.

Rearmed, and now set on a course for what Adama claims is the lost thirteenth colony, Earth, Galactica gets ready – with a largely defenseless civilian fleet in tow – for an escape from the advancing Cylon fleet…or the extinction of the human race.

Jeremiah can have his revenge, and the attacks that are steadily eroding confidence in the alliance will come to an end – at least for now. The Question

JeremiahAt Thunder Mountain, Smith learns that he may never regain the use of the arm that took a bullet in his shootout with Libby, a shootout whose details he’s still keeping secret from everyone else. Not so secret is the fact that Thunder Mountain is going to have to raise an army of its own keep standing up against the forces of Daniel – and once enough recruits show up, Kurdy is expected to train them into an effective fighting force. Skeptical of his leadership abilities, Kurdy turns out to be better than anyone else expected of him. Scherzo

Doctor Who: ScherzoIn the Divergent dimension, the TARDIS is barely able to maintain its shape, dimensions and function, struggling to keep itself intact in a pocket universe where the normal physical laws do not apply. It brings the Doctor and Charley – who stowed away aboard the TARDIS after the Doctor’s harrowing battle with Zagreus – to what seems to be a dark void. The Doctor and Charley finds themselves battered by deafening, disjointed repetitions of their own words in their own voices, and the Doctor surmises that they’re dealing with a creature made of pure sound. But Charley, preoccupied with her unrequited feelings for the Doctor, isn’t as fascinated by the experience. And before either of them knows it, they’re trapped, together alone at the whim of an unseen, and yet incomprehensibly heard, tormentor.

The Past Is Prologue

JeremiahAgainst his better judgement, Kurdy takes on Chen Lee as backup for his next assignment, returning to a city where he once lived before his travels began with Jeremiah. Chen Lee still hasn’t regained the trust of anyone at Thunder Mountain since his betrayal of the alliance, but Kurdy finds that he’s not much more welcome when he returns to his old stomping grounds. He was a gang member there, but ran for his life – and watched his few friends die – when the gang went from foraging for survival necessities to cold-blooded murder. On the road, Jeremiah is stranded and looks for the nearest town, but when he finds shelter, he’s given drugged food and wakes up in a nicely-furnished home with a wife and son who aren’t his. Everything in the house claims that it’s 2004 – 17 years in the past – and even the woman who’s posing as his wife seems to think that every day she wakes up there is going to be a great day. But no one ever leaves the house, and Jeremiah realizes that this piece of the past is now his prison.
