{"id":3011,"date":"2012-04-13T19:17:31","date_gmt":"2012-04-14T01:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/?p=3011"},"modified":"2012-04-13T19:17:31","modified_gmt":"2012-04-14T01:17:31","slug":"everybody-walked-the-dinosaur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/2012\/04\/13\/everybody-walked-the-dinosaur\/","title":{"rendered":"Everybody walked the dinosaur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/evanyoshi.jpg\" alt=\"Little E and friend\" class=alignright \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the spring, a young man&#8217;s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of extinct giant reptiles who would&#8217;ve happily eaten him without a second thought.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Little E and I ventured out to the opening day of Discover the Dinosaurs at the recently-reworked Phoenix Village Expo Center (formerly Phoenix Village Mall) and spent an hour examining the giant lizards of yesteryear.  Well, okay, I was examining them.  They made a lot of noise, they moved, snapping their jaws and flexing their talons, and a lot of dry ice was pumped in.  Little E was <em>hiding<\/em> from the more animated exhibits, and after just a few minutes he really didn&#8217;t care too much for the static ones either.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, it&#8217;s an unguided tour with animatronic dinosaurs and models that are more like nicely done statues.  There are informational placards about each species, and the animatronic exhibits have a lot of pulsating colorful lights (hence some of my photos being a bit blown out), sound effects, and dry ice &#8220;fog&#8221;.  I suppose, if you&#8217;re four years old, it&#8217;s probably pretty darn scary.  <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/trex.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Hey buddy, you got a mint?  Some Chiclets?  Certs?  Anything?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/hungry.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\n<em>I can haz humanburger!  Come here, I&#8217;ll show you!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/jawline.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\nSquare-jawed and handsome, with a piercing gaze.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/thesteg.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\nWho is the Steg?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/display.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Hey&#8230; hey.  My eyes are very sensitive to light. Could we uh&#8230; make it darker in here?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/horny.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\n<em>I regret to inform you at this time that I&#8217;m extremely horny.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/evandinos.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\nLittle E mesmerized by the Vari-Lite-generated &#8220;pterodactyls&#8221; swooping across the show floor.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/fluffykins.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\nI brought a new pet home from the dinosaur exhibit. I think I&#8217;m going to call him Fluffykins McCuddlymuffin, or Eunice for short.  We&#8217;ll only need to feed him about five head of cattle three times a day.  <em>Can I keep him?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/niceteeth.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\nAfter I felt some breathing on top of my head, I looked up and this is the last thing I remember before we left.  <strong>CHOMP!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q2-12\/survived.jpg\" alt=\"Discover The Dinosaurs\" \/><br \/>\nWe survived the dinosaurs, grabbed some food, and went home!<\/p>\n<p>A good time was had by all&#8230; kinda.  Little E got a set of colored pencils and dino stencils in the gift shop; I had to keep myself from buying any plastic dinosaurs (because, you know, I need a lot of them around the house).
