I can’t tell if Underground Toys is irredeemably cool or irredeemably cruel. Probably somewhere in between. And their press release is so amazingly confusing that I still don’t know if they’re for sale at the show or not until afterward (August availability for online retailers is mentioned) – the wording is that vague.

To understand why this is a big deal to someone who (A) has a kid with his own growing toy collection, and (B) is in his late 30s, I can really only offer the following thoughts: I’ve been watching Doctor Who since I was around 8 years old. The first toys along these lines didn’t appear until I was almost out of high school. And for comparison’s sake, here is the earlier toy line’s take on Pertwee:

Bit of a difference, yeah? (Pertwee may have been tall, but that torso is just plain unnatural.) The aforementioned ’80s/’90s varied wildly in quality, and of the eight Doctors we’d seen by that time, only three were produced. So, to boil it down to a few words: unfinished childhood business. I would love to have had these when I was eight or ten or so, and I’ll happily settle for getting my hands on them at that age plus 30-odd years.

Hey, you guys do know I’m a card-carrying geek…right? 😛

If you’re freaked out by the thought of a grown man who’s still adding to his toy collection, feel free to wait for the next train!

[30

post-1513","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-toybox
["GET
