She’s accepted Nimitz into her litter with no problem, and he’s accepted her as “mom” too. I don’t think anybody plans on pointing out the discrepancy of a super-sized kitten to either party anytime soon. It may not read this way in the pictures, but he is bigger than the rest of the litter – he’s something like 1.5x bigger than the other kittens. But they’re all cool with him being there, so it’s all good. Incidentally, I only discovered yesterday that Lily is the daughter of this stray cat who I rescued before Evan was born – what a coincidence, eh? (Not to mention that she looks uncannily like her mom.) I thought that was an interesting bit of stray cat karma there.

Nimitz will be there a few weeks longer as he and the other kittens are weaned and Lily puts them through “cat academy” – i.e. pouncing, stalking, playing, and generally learning to be cats. In the meantime, he cleans up nicely, doesn’t he? Here he is being used as a cushion by his smaller sisters and brothers. I like that resting-his-face-on-his-hand look that just says “Why do these guys have to lay on me?” He did pop out and come right to me when I visited, however – further confirming that this one can be filed under “meant to be.”

If anyone local wants to adopt one of the other kittens, let me know, I can probably arrange something.

[22

post-1381","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-critters
["GET
