Played a complete game of Dune 2000 without the machine crashing &#8211; well, okay, not quite true.  I got better about game saves and finished a complete game despite the crashes.  Obviously there&#8217;s a conflict somewhere &#8211; it probably explains why I had to reinstall and re-patch Dune 2000 from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I looked up at the clock and it was after 4am.  Actually, almost 5.  I think now I remember the <em>other<\/em> reason I uninstalled Dune 2000 at some point.  <strong>It eats my whole life.<\/strong>  Like a big freakin&#8217; sandworm.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/hizzouse\/q4-08\/martian.jpg\" alt=\"Martian Threat\" class=alignright \/>Now that I&#8217;ve conquered the world, I think it&#8217;s time to tuck the disk away again and get back to a life where I&#8217;m occasionally able to be productive.  Or at least look like it.  Maybe it&#8217;s for the best that Dune 2000 online play isn&#8217;t supported anymore&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of games, the picture you&#8217;re seeing here is the debut of the new Odyssey2\/Videopac game <em>Martian Threat<\/em>, with cover artwork by yours truly, at Eurocon &#8217;08 last weekend in Karlsruhe.  If you&#8217;ve got an O2 (or a Videopac), get it from Dieter Koenig at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classic-consoles-center.at\/videopac\/martian-threat-order-information\">Classic Consoles Center<\/a>.  Fun secret: I threw together the artwork more on a lark than anything.  I&#8217;ve never played the game before, not even in emulation.  \ud83d\ude06  But hey, it gets me a complimentary copy of the game, which I probably couldn&#8217;t have cobbled together than money for otherwise, so hopefully everyone&#8217;s happy with it.<\/p>\n<p>I still find it incredibly amusing that, after spending my childhood being so attached to the cover art on the Odyssey2 games, I seem to have almost become the <em>de facto<\/em> Odyssey2 cover artist myself &#8211; and yet for all that adoration of the original style they used in the &#8217;70s and &#8217;80s, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelogbook.com\/earl\/pics-earls-game-artwork\/\">my stuff looks <em>nothing like that<\/em><\/a>.  \ud83d\ude06  (Well, okay, maybe <em>Calculator<\/em>&#8230;)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Okay, finally got it outta my system.
