I’m an unapologetic fan of the first movie version of Wonka over the more recent one. The Gene Wilder version was, for a kids’ movie, crazy scary – very true to the Grimm fairy tale feel of the book. The more recent remake traded that in for a more Michael-Jackson-inspired creepy, which isn’t quite the same. It’s neat seeing it resurface in this way – nothing’s been done with the soundtrack licensing that just makes me cringe. Seems that someone’s picking and choosing who they cash the check from, and how that party’s going to use the music.
