    Damn that sucks. That’s the second ELO alumni in as many years (Kelly Groucutt being the other, of course). I got a serious case of Birmingham blues now… 🙁

    Edwards was part of the original string trio that brought that “Heavy metal cello” sound to the first 3 ELO albums (and select tracks on Eldorado, like “Laredo Tornado”, one of my all-time ELO faves). He may not be as well-known in the lineup as those who followed in his footsteps, but he was carving out completely new territory. As much as I like the later ELO stuff, that early sound really sticks in one’s head, and I’m disappointed that no one’s ever really followed up on it, whether connected to ELO or not.
