Hark! Now I hear them.*

Doctor Who Unbound: Full Fathom FiveBig Finish Productions has just unleashed the third adventure in the acclaimed “alternate universe” miniseries Doctor Who Unbound, Full Fathom Five. Starring David Collings (Elizabeth R, numerous past episodes of Doctor Who and Blake’s 7, The Thirty-Nine Steps) and Ed Bishop (The Saint, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Highlander: The Series, UFO, and 2001: a space odyssey), Full Fathom Five is said to be the “most traditional” of the Unbound audio stories…but how traditional is that? Find out now – Doctor Who Unbound: Full Fathom Five is now available in theLogBook.com Store.

* = from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, just like “full fathom five.” It just seemed appropriate somehow.

Crusade Captain promoted to Vice President.

CrusadeIt’s been four years since he led the crew of the Excalibur in the short-lived Babylon 5 spinoff series Crusade, but now Gary Cole is back – and occupying a much higher office as a newly-appointed Vice President to fellow B5 alum Martin Sheen’s chief executive on The West Wing. Mirroring the departure of creator Aaron Sorkin earlier this year, the show’s last season portrayed an upheaval which included the ousting of the existing VP, and Cole’s character is said to have some unconventional ideas on running the country. It’s not known if the Apocalypse Box will be appointed to the cabinet.

An animated Blake remake!?

Blake's 7In a quote reprinted in the British press and widely attributed to Blake’s 7 revival producer Andrew Mark Sewell (though it should be noted that Sewell has not confirmed or expanded on these comments elsewhere), an animated remake of the original Blake’s 7 episodes may be in the works, supposedly relying heavily on CGI. The fan response to these comments has been colorful (and that’s putting it rather politely). No further comment has been forthcoming from Sewell or Blake’s 7 Enterprises (run by Sewell and former B7 star Paul Darrow).

GBA 2600.

The great thing about the tiny-but-fun 4K and 8K games of the Atari 2600 days is that these games can now be packed into compilations in great numbers. And if you thought Activision did a good job of this with last winter’s Activision Anthology for PS2 and other consoles (see our game store for ordering info), wait until you see what they’ve packed into a bite-sized package for the Game Boy Advance. Activision Anthology Advance crams 55 Atari 2600 games onto a single GBA cartridge, including many of our favorites: Freeway, Pitfall, Pitfall II, Keystone Kapers, and many more – including recent homebrew titles cooked up by 2600 hobbyists. Activision Anthology Advance is scheduled for a late fall release.

OKGE changes location.

The first (and hopefully first annual) Oklahoma Gaming Exhibition has changed locations. It’s still in Oklahoma, but it’s moved from Owasso to a larger hall in the Hilton Southern Hills hotel in Tulsa due to exhibitor and vendor demand. Live LAN tournaments, a Super Mario Kart contest, door prizes, and plenty of games both old and new are going to be on display. theLogBook.com’s own Phosphor Dot Fossils will be part of the fun, bringing some classic arcade and home video game goodness to the party, including some really rare ones and imports too. For more information, click here.

Woolfson back in business.

Eric Woolfson's Poe - that's funny, I thought he was Eric WoolfsonAmong the tales of mystery and imagination fans have wondered about for years is: whatever happened to Eric Woolfson, Alan Parsons’ cohort from the original Alan Parsons Project? As it turns out, Woolfson is working on a new album which will also form the basis of a new musical, Poe: More Tales Of Mystery And Imagination. This new project (so to speak) brings Woolfson full-circle to the source material that inspired the very first Alan Parsons Project, Tales Of Mystery And Imagination: Edgar Allan Poe, back in 1976. Unlike some of Woolfson’s prior stage musicals, it’s important to note that he’s written all-new songs for Poe, rather than continuing his past practice of recycling past Project songs and weaving a story around them. Woolfson provides lead vocals on one half of the album, and is currently seeking backing for the stage production. We’ll have pre-order information on the CD as soon as possible.

Something for the headlines…

Andrea ThompsonShe’s back – back in the acting business, that is. Babylon 5 alumnus Andrea Thompson, late of CNN Headline News, is getting back in front of the cameras, but they’re not the news cameras. Thompson has landed a role in the upcoming third season of Fox’s 24. (No word on whether or not she’ll be trying to get back into the news after her 24 gig.)

Masterson loses Matchmaker appeal.

Actress Chase Masterson, best known in genre circles for her recurring role as Leeta in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has lost an appeal in her lawsuit against online dating site Matchmaker.com. Masterson initially filed the suit in 2000, alleging that the company didn’t immediately comply with her request to have a fraudulent profile displaying her picture, home address and phone number. In her invasion of privacy/defamation suit, Masterson said that the resulting calls and even alleged threats forced her to flee her home with her son in tow, living in hotels for months. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this week that the dating service could not be held responsible for the listings posted on it by a third party.

Xena DVDs to be re-released with new features?

Xena: Warrior PrincessIf you haven’t had a chance to go and buy the first-season Xena: Warrior Princess DVD box set…you’re in luck. Anchor Bay is re-releasing the entire set, now with commentaries added by Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Connor. While fans who haven’t put money on the table for this set as of yet will be delighted, there’s no word on allowing owners of the original set to upgrade – thus setting up a really dangerous precedent in the DVD box set industry. The upcoming season two box set, however, will already have commentary on several episodes.

Blake’s back?

Blake's 7The official web site of Paul Darrow‘s attempt to relaunch Blake’s 7 is now up and running with more than a wait-and-see splash page. The new site includes Darrow’s retrospectives on the original series, his plans for a four-hour revival miniseries (and hopefully weekly series to follow), and some very…lively banter in the forums, ranging from fans’ hopes and concerns about the new series to what seems to be the perpetually-delayed season 1 DVD box set. Visit Blake’s 7: A Rebellion Reborn here.
