Paul “Avon” Darrow and Brian Lighthill (director/producer of the two 1999 BBC Radio revivals of Terry Nation’s Blake’s 7 are spearheading an effort to bring the series back to our screens. The plotline would see a new band of freedom fighters stumbling upon Avon and Orac (the tetchy computer voiced by Peter Tuddenham) twenty years after events seen in the final episode of the television series. Avon will be relegated to the background as the new cast takes the spotlight, making it rather like “Blake’s 7: The Next Generation.” Darrow is serving as an associate producer on the series, along with Brian Lighthill and executive producer Andrew Mark Sewell. It should be stressed that the new Blake series has not gone before cameras yet, but things look very good indeed for the production of a pilot.

Galaga reborn.
In an attempt to position itself at the forefront of the growing classic video game craze, Atari (now a subsidiary of Hasbro) has licensed the classic arcade game Galaga from Namco and is updating it with a new 3-D graphics scheme and some other surprises. The new version of Galaga for the PC and Playstation should be available this fall. In other Retro Revival news, Atari and Namco are also working on a new version of the hit driving game Pole Position for the PC and Sega Dreamcast, to be released toward the end of 2000. A new version of Pac-Man, which looks to be very similar to the Playstation Retro Revival Pac-Man World (though not the same game) is also due for the PC platform this summer.

Romana returns.
Lalla Ward has agreed to reprise the role of Romana in one of Big Finish Productions’ upcoming Doctor Who Audio Adventures. In a continuity tie-in with both the Virgin Books New Adventures and the BBC Doctor Who novels, Romana will appear as the President of the Time Lords, a post she has held since the New Adventure novel “Blood Harvest” in 1994. This isn’t Ms. Ward’s first revisitation of the Doctor Who universe, however – she has assumed a vaguely Romana-esque role of a female time-traveler called “The Mistress” – alongside the voice of John Leeson as K-9 – in Bill Baggs’ independent, unlicensed series of Doctor Who audio spinoffs.
