Left Behind - reviewed on Monday, December 29, 2003 by Earl Green

Left Behind: Tribulation ForceIt is the eve of the first anniversary of the disappearance of millions - the event that many now regard as the Rapture, but which Carpathia has since explained away as some sort of nuclear-related anomaly. Rayford, now the full-time, on-call pilot of Carpathia’s personal jet, prepares to relocate to New Babylon, and asks Amanda to marry him and join him there. Buck proposes to Chloe as well, and both couples agree to be married in a joint ceremony. President Fitzhugh clandestinely reveals to Buck that he’s arranged for an uprising against Carpathia - but Buck can only think of Bruce’s warning that this event has been foretold, leading to a war that will kill a quarter of the world’s population.

Left Behind: Tribulation ForceMoved to act by Rabbi Ben-Judah’s broadcast, Bruce Barnes risks all to reach Israel to attend a meeting led by the two witnesses from the Wailing Wall. He’s stunned by the size of the crowd and the power of the message they hear. Simultaneously, Nicolae Carpathia is accepting plaudits for signing the Israeli peace treaty, but his speech is interrupted by that of one of the two witnesses, proclaiming the Secretary General a liar. In the meantime, Rayford and Chloe welcome Amanda White to their home; she once attended a church meeting held by Ray’s wife - the very night that millions disappeared. Ray admits to being quite taken with her, while Chloe’s romance with Buck is strained by his impending move to New York City.

Who Is Messiah?

Left Behind - reviewed on Monday, December 15, 2003 by Earl Green

Left Behind: Tribulation ForceAs President Fitzhugh fumes over how easily he was manipulated by Carpathia, Buck is contacted again by Rabbi Ben-Judah, who is now willing to confide in him some nervousness of how his broadcast will be received. As the world tunes in - including Rayford (and, to Rayford’s surprise, Nicolae as well) - the Rabbi reveals that his interpretation of the world’s holy texts point to Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Ben-Judah gets his message out despite attempts to interfere with the broadcast, but after his hour in the studio is over, he is rushed to safety by Buck, who knows that the Rabbi is now in mortal danger from both Carpathia and radical elements among his own people.

Tribulation’s Treaty

Left Behind - reviewed on Monday, December 8, 2003 by Earl Green

Left Behind: Tribulation ForceDespite the fire that consumes the prophets’ attackers in Jerusalem, Rabbi Ben-Judah and Buck survive unharmed, despite being close to the would-be assassin. Determined to speak with the two untouchable prophets, they make their way past armed security and listen as the two men describe their faith, and what they believe is yet to come. The prophets also draw the attention of Nicolae Carpathia, who stuns some of his cabinet members and advisors by advocating extreme measures to silence them. President Fitzhugh, steaming over Carpathia’s takeover of Air Force One, plans to criticize the Secretary-General publicly during the treaty signing - but when he opens his mouth to do so, Carpathia once again takes control, compelling the President to endorse the treaty.

Dealing With The Devil

Left Behind - reviewed on Monday, December 1, 2003 by Earl Green

Left Behind: Tribulation ForceRayford cautiously meets with Nicolae Carpathia, insisting that he’s only agreeing to fly Air Force One for the trip to New Babylon and back. Carpathia gives Ray a personal tour of the sleek plane, certain that he can secure Ray’s services as his personal pilot for a good deal longer. Upon arriving in Israel for the signing of the treaty, Buck is drawn to the two men who have been preaching Christian doctrine at Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall - and have survived every attack which has befallen them. No one, however, is willing to risk Nicolae’s disfavor by giving Buck access to them, with the sole exception of a reluctant Rabbi Tsion Ben-Judah, who is hours away from his international broadcast which he says will reveal the identity of the Messiah to all. When Buck and Ben-Judah approach the prophets, however, another assassination attempt occurs and is just as quickly ended in deadly fire - this time with Buck and Ben-Judah caught in the middle.
