New Faith, Old Lie

Left Behind - reviewed on Monday, November 24, 2003 by Earl Green

Left Behind: Tribulation ForceHaving introduced a one-world currency, Carpathia now moves to consolidate the world’s religions. Citing religion as a cause of war, bloodshed and destruction throughout the history of mankind, Carpathia brings the church under his control - and he begins by installing a hand-picked Pope in the Catholic Church and raising his status to “Pontifix Maximus.” In the same announcement, he transforms the United Nations into the Global Community, which of course he also governs. Carpathia’s move to put the media under his thumb also happens as legislation loosening restrictions on newspaper, television and radio ownership is passed with lightning speed. Meanwhile, it appears that Rayford can’t avoid a persistent campaign to recruit him as the new pilot of Air Force One - or a personal meeting with Carpathia himself. Upon learning that Hattie has informed Carpathia of his newfound faith, and remembering Buck’s terrifying tale of what happened at the UN, Ray wonders if he’ll survive the encounter.

But to the amazement of both Buck and Ray, Bruce thinks they should pursue their respective job opportunities under Carpathia - to allow the Tribulation Force to keep a closer eye on him.
