Tron Deadly Discs

In TRON Deadly Discs, you are Tron, a lone video game warrior pitted against three other enemies with much greater armament. You can take a number of hits before you're "de-rezzed" out of existence, but those hits can pile up pretty quickly. By throwing your disc at certain portions of the arena wall and changing them to the same color as your on-screen character, you can make tunnels for yourself - not unlike the side tunnels in Pac-Man - handy for escape or ambush.

You can get to quite a high level in TRON Deadly Discs...but eventually you'll reach one you can't win. (M Network [Mattel], 1982)

Though it only corresponds to a very brief scene in the movie Tron, Deadly Discs is a very addictive game - and quite a bit of fun, actually!

Rating: One dollar  A whole dollar - trade it in for more quarters, you'll be playing this one for a while.

Adventures of Tron

Once again, as video warrior Tron, you scale the heights of the MCP's domain, avoiding Tanks, Recognizers and Grid Bugs, and trying to collect Bits. You can occasionally hitch a brief ride on a perpetually airborne Solar Sailer on one level, allowing you to fly over your opponents' heads for a few seconds. (M Network [Mattel], 1982)

Though formatted like one of the numerous platform adventure games that would one day become associated with Mario, Adventures of Tron, while quite challenging, is frustrating since there seems to be no actual goal to reach. After a few levels, it becomes extremely repetitious.

Rating: Three quarters  Three quarters - worth repeat play, but with some annoying features that might alienate less patient arcade veterans.
