Sights Of The Expo

The live music was outstanding - I just about wanted to get down and
boogie during the spirited techno rendition of the theme from
M.U.L.E. - and of course there were CDs for sale, including 8-Bit
Weapon's Confidential disc, which is quite possibly the most innovatively
packaged CD I've ever seen.

Dan Kramer's specially-modified version of Missile Command for the Atari
home computers, and its accompanying customized trakball. According to Kramer,
this was a free-time engineering project intended to get the feel of the arcade
game back from the limited single-fire-button action of the home version.

A G4 camera crew invades the Digital
Press booth, cornering Ben Heckendorn for an interview about his portable
Atari 2600 creations. In the meantime, across the
main hall, I really wanted to invade this Odyssey2 kiosk and stick
my head out of the opening for the monitor. Maybe if I ask, they'll let me do
it next year. It was sad to see it unoccupied by any kind of hardware.

I was really tempted by this nifty Williams delivery truck on sale at the
Pinball Hall Of Fame booth. And the prospect of picking up a Gamecube is even
more tempting with the excellent Midway Arcade Treasures on display at
Midway's booth. I got a kick out of seeing so many kids stopping through
there to play games like Satan's Hollow.

Speaking of which, check out this lucky young gamer getting a personal demo of
the 25-in-1 standalone TV game at the Intellivision
Productions booth.
