When North American Phillips renewed their promotional push for the
Odyssey2 in 1981, one of their first steps was to look
at what was working for other console manufacturers, and follow suit. Atari had
a colorful "fan club" magazine in print, so Phillips began to create a
similar publication for Odyssey2 afficionados,
Odyssey2 Adventure. Players were profiled,
high scores were put on display (at least initially), products were hawked (such
as plush Quest For The Rings dragons and
console dust covers), and upcoming titles were previewed. There was also an
active letters section, though some of the early issues' letters were culled
from consumer comments not specific to the magazine.
This section of our Odyssey2
Archive chronicles this much-loved print source of info on Odyssey fans'
favorite machine, with complete, full-color, cover-to-cover scans of the
magazine.
Issues Available
Special thanks to the readers who made this section
possible: this project started out with a 2-3 year timeline by my
estimation; I figured it would take that long to either track down all the
issues myself or get scans from the site's interested readers. As I write this,
it's now perhaps six months since this section opened, and it is
complete. My sincere gratitude to Brian Husek, Renè van den Enden, and
especially Marcello Iannuzzi, who filled in the blanks for me. All three of
them sent in razor-sharp scans of the magazines in question, completing this
archive much, much faster than I would have thought possible.
