  • November 1, 1962: The Soviet Mars 1 probe made the first successful flyby of Mars, though contact with it was lost soon afterward.
  • November 3: Kevin Murphy, the longest-serving (but not the original) voice of Mystery Science Theater 3000's Tom Servo, was born.
  • November 3, 1957: The Soviets launched the first living being from Earth aboard Sputnik 2, and though this first space traveler from our planet didn't return home, it didn't seem to discourage any humans from lining up around the corner for the next launch - Sputnik 2 was occupied by a dog.
  • November 3, 1973: The American space probe Mariner 10 was launched on a groundbreaking tour of the inner planets, including the first close-up photos of Venus and the only photos so far of the planet Mercury.
  • November 3, 1994: Space shuttle Atlantis is launched on mission number STS-66.
  • November 5, 1949: Armin Shimerman, Star Trek's Quark, was born.
  • November 6, 1958: Trace Beaulieu, Mystery Science Theater 3000's evil Dr. Forrester, and the original voice of Crow, was born.
  • November 9, 1964: Robert Duncan McNeill, Star Trek: Voyager's Tom Paris, was born.
  • November 9, 1967: The engines of the enormous Saturn V rocket used to launch all the moon missions were fired up for the first time. NASA wasn't really sure what to expect, and it sure surprised some other people. The launch registered on geological instruments as far away as New York, and a CBS broadcast booth three miles from the launch pad collapsed.
  • November 10, 1933: Ron Evans, Apollo 17 command module pilot, was born.
  • November 11, 1966: Gemini 12 was launched, the last flight of the two-man series whose many flights yielded information vital to the moon-bound Apollo program.
  • November 11: Sabrina Lloyd, Sliders' Wade Wells, was born.
  • November 12: Deep Space Nine favorite Max Grodenchik (Rom) was born.
  • November 12, 1980: Voyager 1 passed within 77,000 miles of Saturn's south pole, its final planetary stop.
  • November 12, 1981: Space shuttle Columbia was launched for its second flight, during which the first tests of the Canadian-supplied remote manipulator arm were carried out.
  • November 12, 1995: Space shuttle Atlantis is launched on the second U.S. shuttle mission to Russian space station Mir.
  • November 13, 1949: Whoopi Goldberg, comedian and Star Trek's own Guinan, was born.
  • November 13, 1959: Tracy Scoggins, who played Captain Lochley in Babylon 5's fifth season, was born.
  • November 14, 1933: Fred Haise, Apollo 13 lunar module pilot, was born.
  • November 14, 1959: Paul McGann, the eighth Doctor Who, was born.
  • November 14, 1969: Apollo 12 was launched, the second successful manned moon landing; Alan Bean and Dick Gordon investigated the moon's surface and "recovered" the unmanned Surveyor 3 probe while Charles Conrad orbited overhead in the command module.
  • November 14, 1984: Space shuttle Discovery is launched on the 14th shuttle mission.
  • November 15, 1990: Space shuttle Atlantis lifts off on mission number STS-38.
  • November 16, 1965: The Venera 3 probe launched by the U.S.S.R. became the first man-made object to enter the atmosphere of Venus, though the pressure of the planet's atmosphere crushed the probe before it relayed any data.
  • November 16, 1973: The final three-man Skylab crew took off for a record 84-day visit to the space station.
  • November 18, 1923: Alan B. Shepard, the first American in space and commander of the Apollo 14 mission (the only Mercury astronaut to make it to the moon), was born.
  • November 19, 1924: William Russell, who played science teacher Ian Chesterson, one of Doctor Who's very first traveling companions, was born.
  • November 19, 1953: Robert Beltran, Star Trek's Commander Chakotay, was born.
  • November 19, 1963: Terry Farrell, Star Trek's Jadzia Dax, was born.
  • November 19, 1996: Space shuttle Columbia lifts off for mission number STS-80, the longest U.S. manned space mission to date.
  • November 19, 1997: Columbia lifts off again, this time for mission number STS-87.
  • November 21, 1934: Laurence Luckinbill, the Fort Smith native known in Star Trek circles as Spock's brother from the ill-fated Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, was born. Larry is best known for his outstanding one-man show Lyndon, based on the life of the late President Lyndon B. Johnson.
  • November 21, 1965: Siddig el Fadil, a.k.a. Alexander Siddig, Star Trek's Dr. Bashir, was born.
  • November 22, 1918: Ray Walston, everyone's favorite Martian (and character actor) was born.
  • November 22, 1989: Space shuttle Discovery lifts off on mission number STS-33.
  • November 23, 1963: Pre-empted by continuous coverage of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and going largely unnoticed by the people of England, Doctor Who premiered with the episode An Unearthly Child.
  • November 24, 1957: Denise Crosby, Star Trek's seemingly immortal Tasha Yar, was born.
  • November 24, 1991: Space shuttle Atlantis lifts off on mission number STS-44.
  • November 25, 1920: Ricardo Montalban, keeper of Fantasy Island and the crown prince of Star Trek movie villainy, was born.
  • November 25, 1946: Bev Bevan, drummer for The Move, ELO and currently ELO Part II, was born.
  • November 25, 1998: The final episode of Babylon 5, Sleeping In Light, premieres on TNT, ending the show's planned five-year run.

  • November 26, 1985: Space shuttle Atlantis lifts off on the next-to-last mission before the Challenger accident.
  • November 28, 1964: Mariner 4 was launched; it later returned the first close-up photos of Mars.
  • November 28, 1983: The ninth shuttle flight began, with the SpaceLab international scientific payload and its four scientists on board. It was also Gemini/Apollo/shuttle veteran John Young's final space flight.
  • November 29, 1942: Michael Craze, who witnessed the first Doctor Who regeneration as companion Ben, was born.
