S.O.S. Earth: Revive Space Battleship Yamato

Star Blazers2199 A.D.: At the end of the 22nd century, planet Earth has been laid to waste by decades of radioactive planet bombs launched by the all-conquering Gamilons. The surviving human population has resorted to elaborate underground cities to survive, but the radiation will soon reach a point beyond which the surface of the Earth cannot protect them. All life on Earth is doomed.

Captain Avatar, one of the Earth Defense Force’s most seasoned leaders, commands a futile action against Gamilon forces which have now gained a solid foothold in Earth’s solar system on Pluto. The battle quickly turns against the human warriors, and with only two ships left of the fleet he led to Pluto, Avatar orders a retreat. The captain of the other ship, Alex Wildstar, disobeys direct orders and covers Avatar’s retreat – at the cost of his own life. Only Avatar and his surviving crew escape the slaughter, and the Gamilon presence in the solar system is left unchecked.

Meanwhile on Mars, Cadets Mark Venture and Derek Wildstar – Alex’s younger brother – discover the remains of a crashed spacecraft, neither of Earth or Gamilon origin. The sole occupant, a beautiful young woman, died in the ship’s violent landing, protecting a message capsule to the last. Wildstar and Venture are picked up by Avatar’s returning battleship, bringing the mysterious capsule with them.

Once decoded, the capsule turns out to be a message from Queen Starsha of the distant but peaceful planet Iscandar. Starsha offers a solution to Earth’s imminent doom in the form of Cosmo DNA, which can only be obtained on her world. The message also includes complete instructions for building a new propulsion system which will make the journey, spanning hundreds of thousands of light years, possible within one year.

Wildstar and Venture are summoned to a city constructed beneath what was once an ocean floor. Lodged in the surface above them lies the great World War II battleship Yamato, which is secretly being refitted into an advanced, one-of-a-kind starship using Starsha’s wave motion engine designs. To their surprise, the cadets have been hand-picked to join the command crew of the new vessel – which is to be commanded by Captain Avatar, whom Wildstar blames for Alex’s death.

But before the mighty Yamato can be rechristened Argo and launched on the last desperate mission to save the human race, the Gamilons launch an attack to destroy the ship on the ground – unless the ship’s new crew can pull together quickly and repel the assault.

Escape The Floating Continent

Star BlazersD minus 361 days: The Argo’s warp past Mars takes it too close to Jupiter, and the ship is pulled into the huge planet’s atmosphere, sustaining even more damage in the process. Just when it looks as though the Argo will be crushed in the intense pressure of Jupiter’s lower atmosphere, an impossible solution presents itself – a large land mass afloat in the atmosphere. But this convenient repair stop proves to be too convenient, for the continent is also home to a well-armed secret Gamilon tactical base. Captain Avatar sees the Gamilon threat as a perfect target on which to test the powerful wave motion gun, a piece of Iscandar technology which is so powerful, it drains all power from every other system aboard the Argo immediately before and after firing.

But Wildstar’s scouting party finds something else on Titan too – Gamilons. IQ-9 prevents Wildstar and Nova from being captured and killed by the narrowest of margins, and in the moments after the battle, Derek makes another startling discovery…the broken hull of his late brother’s battleship, crashed on Titan after the battle of Pluto.

Star BlazersD minus 359 days: Approaching Pluto, the Argo is spotted by Colonel Ganz from the well-fortified base the Gamilons have established there. Ganz is eager to lure the Argo into range of the reflex gun, a new Gamilon weapon with a shorter range than the wave motion gun, but comprarable in destructive power. The reflex gun scores a direct hit on the Argo, causing critical damage, and forcing the ship into a death dive for the surface – a fate which is avoided by firing the rocket anchor into the surface of Pluto’s moon Charon at the last minute. But then Ganz reveals his trump card – a serious of orbital satellites which can reflect the energy of the reflex gun in any direction around the planet. The second hit forces Argo into Pluto’s icy oceans…and a third sinks the great ship with all hands aboard.

Wildstar leads a desperate mission to find and destroy the reflex gun, while the Gamilons’ attack intensifies. The Argo’s oxygen supply is damaged, and once the ship’s air is exhausted, it will be forced to surface in Pluto’s ocean again – making it a very easy target for the Gamilons. Star BlazersD minus 354 days: Disgraced by his retreat from Pluto, Colonel Ganz tries to regain Desslock’s favor by mounting a last-ditch offensive against the Argo – and given the Argo’s extremely vulnerable state following the withering series of attacks at Pluto, a Gamilon victory isn’t inconceivable. Sandor warns Captain Avatar that a straightforward fight will only result in the Star Force’s destruction. With no alternatives, the Argo takes shelter in a nearby asteroid belt, where Avatar hopes to buy enough time to conduct thorough repairs. Sandor concocts an unconventional camouflage scheme, in which asteroid fragments from the belt will be drawn against the hull of the Argo. Worse still, Zordar has his sights set on Earth – and Leader Desslok, having barely escaped his last encounter with the Star Force, has joined the Comet Empire as a military advisor. With the EDF expecting Wildstar to steal the Argo, a quick, decisive launch is necessary – but two key crew members, Mark Venture and Nova, have yet to report to the Argo. Wildstar gives the blastoff order anyway, and the Argo must fight its way through Earth’s own defenses to make orbit. But once there, a new challenge stands before the Star Force – the better-armed Andromeda has been ordered to keep them from escaping.
