Word of a glowstone strike reaches the prospectors gathered at the Rising Star Saloon on the asteroid Vesta, setting off a new gold rush. Miners beat a hasty path to the asteroid Kalimar, and the ISA sends Maura, Graydon and Buddy to Kalimar as well, giving Maura a chance to study glowstone up close for the first time. They meet up with Buddy’s old friend, cardsharp Travis Silverthorn, also en route to Kalimar, hoping to hustle the newly-rich miners at the poker table. When they arrive at Kalimar, however, it appears that the miners have already become victims, but with considerably higher stakes. The Night Riders of Kalimar, eyeless predatory lizards, have come for them all.
