Flip-Flop

Doctor Who: Flip-Flop…just then, the “other” Doctor and Melanie arrive on the human colony planet Puxatornee, discovering that the alien Slithergees have all but taken over, using humans are seeing-eye dogs and servants, and even edging human traditions, history and beliefs out of the humans’ own teachings by way of claiming rampant anti-Slithergee discrimination. Two terrorists, Stewart and Reed, are out to restore the balance and put the humans in charge again, and when they discover that the Doctor and Mel are time travelers, they force the TARDIS crew at gunpoint to take them back in time to change history. But the history they bring about is one where the Slithergees were refused permission to settle in the Puxatornee system, resulting in a war that left the planet permanently contaminated. Stewart and Reed are killed, and the Doctor makes a hasty exit, worried about encountering his and Mel’s counterparts from the divergent timeline that has been created. Just then, the “other” Doctor and Melanie arrive on the doomed planet Puxatornee, where two soldiers, Stewart and Reed, wish to change history so the human-Slithergee war never fatally polluted Puxatornee. When they discover that the Doctor and Mel are time travelers, they force the TARDIS crew at gunpoint to take them back in time to prevent these events. But the history they bring about is one where the Slithergees were granted permission to settle and slowly took over. Stewart and Reed are killed, and the Doctor makes a hasty exit, worried about encountering his and Mel’s counterparts from the divergent timeline that has been created…

He Jests At Scars…

Doctor Who Unbound: He Jests At Scars...During his trial, the Doctor struggles with the Valeyard and becomes trapped in the Matrix as Melanie watches in horror – and the other Time Lords, including a newly elected Lord President, watch with distant interest and no desire to interfere. Mel insists on trying to rescue the Doctor, but finds no interest from the Time Lords, who plan to watch the unfurling of the Doctor’s history with detached curiosity should the Valeyard win. And indeed the Valeyard does win, but he doesn’t limit himself to the Matrix – and he doesn’t stop with killing the Doctor. The Valeyard interferes with time and destroys Gallifrey itself, and even goes back and kills the fourth Doctor en route to Logopolis. That act begins to unravel the Valeyard’s own history, however – and in trying to go back and restore his past timeline as the Doctor, he may destroy the web of time itself.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack

GodzillaJapanese naval experts are assisting the U.S. Navy in the search for a missing submarine near Guam. They spot Godzilla, who has apparently been reawakened after 50 years by the radiation released by the smashed sub.

A pair of earthquakes with moving epicenters rock the Mount Myoko region. At one, a terrified truck driver sees a monstrous face in the crumbling debris. Later at a beach party at Lake Ikeda, a group of drunken revelers are pulled underwater. A larval Mothra comes ashore.

TV Reporter Yuri Tachibana has been researching “Guardian Monsters” and decides to investigate the mysterious events. Baragon, Mothra, and Ghidorah are identified in an ancient book as being the protective creatures of legend. Meanwhile, Godzilla is described by an old man as having the collective souls of those killed during World War Two, seeking revenge against those who wish to forget the war. Baragon surfaces from underground and heads toward Gotenba. The red dog-like creature with a horn on its forehead is eliminated by Godzilla when they battle briefly at Hakone.

King Ghidorah awakens from his mountain slumber, while Mothra hatches from her cocoon floating on the lake. They converge in Yokohama. The butterfly and the golden monster wage a fierce battle with the King of the Monsters, destroying nearly the entire city. Godzilla beats back the three headed monster. As it lies wounded, he blasts at it with his nuclear breath, but Mothra takes the brunt of the blast. JDF forces launch an attack against the beast, only to face annihilation. Mothra rises again but as she closes in she’s vaporized by a point blank blast from Godzilla. Her life essence, though, is transferred to Ghidorah, who had been wounded. He rises and is able to fend off a brutal blast from Godzilla, pushing the blast back against the monster, who falls backward into the bay. The Guardian Monster presses the attack underwater.

Yuri’s father, Commander Tachibana, who witnessed Godzilla’s original attack 50 years earlier, pilots a small submarine armed with special mining explosives to attack the weakened lizard as Ghidorah holds fast. Godzilla blasts at the Guardian. The golden creature rises from the water, with Godzilla close behind. From the air it pelts the lizard with monstrous lightning bolts. Godzilla blasts at Ghidorah, who explodes in a massive fireball that fills the night sky. The fire forms into the shapes of Baragon, and Mothra before it engulfs Godzilla, who sinks into the water. Tachibana’s sub is swallowed up by Godzilla, who is regaining strength. He fires the missile from inside Godzilla, ripping the monster to pieces. Tachinaba manages to escape from the belly of the beast and is reunited with his daughter.

Deep in the waters of the bay, a giant heart lies beating…

screenplay by Keiichi Jasengawa, Mashiro Yokotani & Shusuke Kaneko
directed by Shusuke Kaneko
music by Kow Otani

Human Cast: Chiharo Niiyama (Yuri Tachibana), Ryudo Uzaki (Admiral Taizo Tachibana), Masahiro Kobayashi (Teruaki Takeda)

Monster Cast: Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Baragon

Notes: Once again, previous Godzilla continuity is eschewed in favor of creating a different mythology. GMKG is more mystical in nature and casts King Ghidorah against type as a hero. This is one of the more interesting entries with better character development, lots of monster action, and plenty of property damage.

The Xindi

Star Trek: EnterpriseSix weeks into their mission into the Delphic Expanse, the Enterprise crew is on edge – thus far, they’ve managed to follow only a single lead. The crew is also growing accustomed to the presence of Military Assault Command Operations (MACO) troops aboard the Enterprise. Captain Archer and Trip work a questionable deal with an alien who claims to have a Xindi prisoner, and when the two Enterprise officers finally meet their first living Xindi, they become prisoners too – and now they have to rely on their enemy to help them escape. They’ll also need some help from the MACOs…if Lt. Reed can be convinced that the rescue mission would be best handled by commandos rather than Enterprise’s own security forces.

Deadline

Doctor Who Unbound: DeadlineMartin Bannister, in 1961, was voted one of the Times‘ ten most promising young writers for his innovative stage plays. But he tried to venture into television, and was recruited for a new BBC science fiction program called Doctor Who. Despite his extraordinary efforts to define the show’s characters, themes and parameters, Martin watched as Doctor Who made it as far as one failed pilot episode before being abandoned by the BBC. Now, 40 years later, Martin is confined to a nursing home, subjected to unsettling visits by his adult son, who’s still bitter that Martin divorced his mother when he was only six. Martin isn’t sure what is the truth and what isn’t from what his son tells him, and this isn’t the only place he’s having problems with reality – he imagines a burgeoning romance with a nurse, he imagines that he’s being tapped to write the celebratory 40th anniversary comeback of Doctor Who (but why celebrate a show that was never made?), and he imagines that he is the Doctor, that most mysterious traveler in time and space. Will Martin Bannister trade his unpromising reality for an unrealized fantasy?

Anomaly

Star Trek: EnterpriseA spatial anomaly disrupts the structure of the Enterprise itself, just before a well-armed raiding party boards the ship, attacking the crew and robbing supplies from the Enterprise’s cargo bays. The raider vessel, apparently unaffected by the anomaly, slips into an even denser field of spatial disruption apparently unharmed. Archer orders a pursuit course, which damages the Enterprise even further. He intends not only to secure the secret of passing through the anomaly unharmed for the Enterprise, but to retrieve the stolen items and put the raiders out of business. But when a single prisoner is captured who could give him the means to do this, how far will Archer go to get the man to cooperate?

Extinction

Star Trek: EnterpriseStudying a planet in the Expanse at close range, an Enterprise landing party mutates into more primitive forms of life. The cause of this condition is a virus which has now infected Archer, Reed, Hoshi and even T’Pol. The human crew members are transformed, exhibiting personalities from a virological archive of an alien civilization. But by the time Archer and the others can gain an understanding of what has taken control of them, they have traveled to an ancient alien temple – where a group of hunters, who don’t seem eager to help the crew or Dr. Phlox find a cure, is waiting for them.

Davros

Doctor Who: DavrosThe Doctor stumbles upon a plot to revive Davros, thought to be long dead, but this time the Daleks aren’t behind it. This attempt to tap into Davros’ evil genius is a purely commercial concern, funded by a shady Earth corporation whose CEO wants Davros to work for him. Horrified by the implications of this, the Doctor counters with an offer to provide his own services in exchange for keeping Davros under lock and key. The company’s chief executive, realizing that he has two geniuses on his hands, instead strikes a bargain that both parties find even more terrifying – he will hire the Doctor and Davros, and they will share lab and office space. But what the corporation wants is someone who’s not afraid to set ethics aside for the sake of profit – and the Doctor soon becomes ripe for termination. Or, if Davros has his way, extermination.

Impulse

Star Trek: EnterpriseDeep in the Delphic Expanse, the Enterprise encounters a drifting Vulcan science vessel – a ship that was T’Pol’s last assignment before serving at the Vulcan consulate on Earth. It has managed to drift through a chaotic asteroid field too dense and dangerous for the Enterprise to navigate, so Archer takes a small team in via shuttlepod to search for survivors. As it turns out, the Vulcan ship’s entire crew has survived – but they have become infected with a condition that breaks down their emotional control and leaves them in a zombie-like state, attacking anyone who comes near them. Archer and his boarding party are eventually beseiged in a closed-off part of the ship, and T’Pol is infected with this disease during a skirmish with the Vulcan crew, growing increasingly paranoid and violent toward her crewmates.

Jeremiah Season 2

Letters From The Other Side

JeremiahJeremiah, Marcus and Erin are reunited in cells in Valhalla Sector, where Marcus is ruthlessly interrogated about his involvement in an “attempt to overthrow the United States government.” Jeremiah, on the other hand, is escorted to a personal meeting with the man who seems to be in control of that government. The President asks Jeremiah to talk his father into revealing the secrets of the out-of-control bioweapon that the world knows as the Big Death – but, if Jeremiah refuses to cooperate, his life will be used as a pawn to force his father to tell the President what he knows. Jeremiah is reunited with his father, meeting his research assistant Libby in the process, but both men know that their reunion has put them in a dangerous position: the President’s men won’t touch Devon, but as a bargaining chip, Jeremiah is expendable – and the moment he talks, so is Devon.

In the meantime, Kurdy is still on the run from Valhalla Sector search parties and helicopters, and he meets a man who claims that God wants Kurdy to stop running and surrender. Kurdy keeps running until he’s cornered – by none other than Lee Chen, Marcus’ traitorous right-hand-man. But now Lee claims to be working for Jeremiah’s father, and wants to return to Thunder Mountain with Marcus’ help. Lee wants to use Megan, the Big Death-infected woman living in Thunder Mountain’s isolation lab, as a way to secure the release of Valhalla Sector’s prisoners – and if it means saving Marcus’ life, Megan is willing to hand herself over. But the shadow government within Valhalla Sector doesn’t want Megan or Devon’s research to contain the Big Death. They want the ability to selectively deploy the disease as a weapon to ensure their dominance over the world.

Exile

Star Trek: EnterpriseAn unknown man, appearing to be human, is repeatedly seen aboard the Enterprise by Hoshi, but sensors never pick him up. Finally, the person she has repeatedly sighted contacts her more formally, offering to help track down information on where the Xindi are building the next superweapon to be deployed against Earth – in exchange for Hoshi’s company for a few days and an opportunity to study her unique communication and translation abilities. While she’s away, the Enterprise is nearly ripped apart by gravitational anomalies, and Archer and Trip venture onward in a shuttlepod to find the source of the problem. They find an artificially constructed sphere exterting the deadly gravitational influence – and then discover that there are dozens of such spheres throughout the Expanse. And when Hoshi tries to leave her host, she discovers that he has no intention of letting her return to the Enterprise.

JeremiahKurdy has to do some fast talking to convince Thunder Mountain’s remaining personnel to stage a desperate assault on Valhalla Sector, with a prisoner exchange – Megan for Marcus, Erin, Jeremiah and Devin – serving as a distraction. But Valhalla Sector’s “President” and his advisors have only released Marcus and Erin, and Kurdy’s lightning raid forces Valhalla Sector’s troops to keep the door open long enough for the helicopter carrying Megan to land…and then the base is sealed off from nuclear, conventional and biological attack. Exile

Doctor Who Unbound: ExileTrapped by the Time Lords and tried for the crime of interfering in history, the Doctor is scheduled to be exiled to Earth – but he escapes into his TARDIS and leaves Gallifrey. Not that this really does him much good, as he winds up trapped on Earth anyway. A few incarnations later, the Doctor’s situation has become even more unsettling – he has not only changed bodies, but changed gender as well. Without her TARDIS, the Doctor becomes bored, listless, and – with the help of two friends she makes on a job she takes to eke out a meager existence – perhaps just a little bit alcoholic. Or perhaps a lot – the Doctor begins to see and hear her previous (male) incarnation, warning her of alien invasions and labyrinthine plots against modern-day Earth. When the Time Lords send two agents to track the Doctor down and bring her back to justice (though they don’t know that the Doctor is now a woman), the only thing standing between the Doctor and her doom is an increasing reliance on the bottle. When it comes right down to it, which oblivion will the Doctor choose?

Jeremiah and the others return to Thunder Mountain, with Libby and Mr. Smith in tow. Traumatized by her recent reacquaintance with the Big Death, Libby isn’t interested in taking on any new assignments. Familiar with Millhaven, and known to its people as someone from Valhalla Sector, Libby reluctantly agrees to accompany Jeremiah on a mission to distract Millhaven’s leaders while Kurdy and Mr. Smith lead an assault team to rescue Theo and the other prisoners.
