Doctor Who - Androids Of Tara

Another of the somewhat stripped-down Key To Time DVD releases rushed into production for the U.S. market, The Androids Of Tara really has only one special feature: the audio commentary. Fortunately, it's a good one, with Tom Baker and Mary Tamm cutting up while director Michael Hayes tries to stay reasonably serious and informative. Hayes talks about the shooting location extensively, as well as sharing tales of Winston the one-eyed horse, and how his fourteen-year-old son swam through the moat of the castle location to guide K9's boat through the water during a night shot.

There's also the customary trivia subtitle track here, but it doesn't have too much to say that most fans haven't already read in such books as the Howe-Stammers-Walker Handbooks. Other than that, the DVD includes a guide to the characters, the usual menu structure, and that's it. I'm hestitant to count off points for a dearth of bonuses, simply because it's hard to find any left-on-the-cutting-room-floor material from this part of Baker's tenure, and because Androids was just one of six DVDs that had to be rushed into production for simultaneous release - and besides, it still has more bonus material than, say, any volume of the original Star Trek on DVD.
