Christmas Kitties

Christmas 2005 has come and gone, and I got some neat stuff, a belly full of food, and some good family time out of the deal. But I know you don’t want to hear about that stuff. You wanna hear the latest cat gossip. I took about half an hour to go out to the hay barn, where the Barn Kitties live at my sister-in-law’s place, to catch up with an old friend.
Sammy Cat!
It’s Sampson! Though a bit shy at first, Sammy Cat seemed to remember me after smelling my hands, and he was more than happy to renew our friendship and let me sit in the nice windbreak of hay bales with he and his new family…… Read more

SAMMY CAT Update!

Probably the most popular series of posts and pictures I ever came up with on my now-extinct Digital Press blog had nothing to do with sci-fi or video games. It had to do with a kitten named Sampson who lived in my house for about a week and a half and captured everybody’s hearts…and was then taken off to his new life as a “Barn Kitty” by my sister-in-law, which was always the plan – only since she took so long to come get Sampson (a.k.a. Sammy Cat), we actually started to think that we were going to keep him. Afterward, my niece would talk about how much she loves Sampson and her other cat, Spaz. But I haven’t seen Sampson since he was a tiny kitten (or Spaz either, for that matter). And I didn’t get to today, either – but my wife did, and she took a few pictures for me, because I’ve always wondered how the little Sammy Cat was doing.
Apparently he’s turned into a fine handsome young man of a cat.

The Story of Sammy Cat.

So in early August, my wife went on a week-long trip to a postal conference to New Orleans, while there was still a New Orleans to have a postal conference in. One day before going on her trip, however, she spotted a kitten sitting next to a mailbox in the blistering heat, panting. Nobody in the nearby homes knew anything about him. She took him along for the rest of her mail route and brought him home, where he proceeded to drink water like a fish.

Meet Gabby Cat

Xena
Everyone talks about the pond behind our barn, but you never get to see it. Not that you can really see it here, but take my word for it, it’s behind the brush. Really. Xena’s checking it out here, but it’s too cold for a swim.

Two days after Christmas, I discovered that we have a new family member too: our very own bona fide Barn Kitty. … Read more

Pupsters.

Arrrrgh. As if I don’t have enough going on, I went outside to feed my Z-Dog this morning and discovered that she had…guests. Gentlemen callers of the canine persuasion. And a most frisky pair of ’em at that. I had no idea how they got into our back yard until I went to chase them off – and they just scooted under the fence like it wasn’t even there.
Sadly, since we live outside of any city limits and there are no county leash laws, there’s not much I can do unless I want to take more “offensive” action – I’m just not crazy about the “country way” of just shooting someone’s dogs. They’re well fed and groomed, and obviously somebody’s babies.

Now I’m just worries that I’m going to be dealing with somebody else’s babies. Anyone want some Z-Pups?… Read more
