Little Guy, Big Plans

About a week and a half before Christmas, I noticed that Little E had scribbled stuff all over his dry-erase door calendar – something on nearly every day. When I inspected it up close, I realized he’d written out a day-by-day plan for what kind of food he wanted to eat that day. Kinda OCD for a five-year-old, but then we had the idea… if behavior that day has been good, and chores have been done… why not?

Little E's Big Plan

So the Saturday he wanted to go to the park, we went to the park. The day he wanted to go to Braum’s and get ice cream, we went to Braum’s and got ice cream. The day he wanted to go to Sonic, we barely squeezed a few bucks out of the budget for him to go to Sonic. The day he wanted pizza, he and I had pizza (since that was one of our stay-at-home days anyway). Hot dogs, oranges, PB & J, muffins… we figured out a way to make it happen.

My wife and I struggle to come up with anything even vaguely resembling a meal plan that contains stuff we both want to eat. Once again, I think the little guy’s ahead of us. After all, E eats everything.
