I’m calling BS on Apple

Link to CNN’s story – some Video iPods infected with WIndows-specific virus

The iPods were infected with the virus at one of Apple’s contract manufacturers.
The virus does not affect Mac customers.
“As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it,” Apple said on its support site.

Bullcrapple. Maybe I’m getting too cynical (and really, I have no stakes in this story, not having an iPod of any flavor and having no intentions of adopting that particular piece of technology in the future), but I simply do not believe Apple’s claim of innocence here.

I guess the iPod I just purchased recently doesn’t seem to be affected…I’ve synced it up multiple times to my PC and it doesn’t seem to be afflicted.
But I had to laugh at Apple’s statement. “We are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses”? You might as well ask for the sun not to shine.

I’ll concede the point that, in the hands of the great unwashed masses who don’t obsess over securing/protecting their systems, Windows as an operating system has all of the defensive strength of a slice of swiss cheese. But to see a direct competitor try to take advantage of that…let me put it this way. If it was Microsoft trying to slip a mickey to OS X, Apple would be screaming bloody murder, and no vague statements about mysterious third-party contractors on the grass knoll would silence them.
