Star Trek Volume 30
![]()
featuring the episodes The Enterprise Incident and …And The Children Shall Lead
With two of the better-plotted and best-remembered third season episodes, this 30th volume of digital Classic Trek is one of that season’s few must-have discs. The Enterprise Incident, an unexpectedly sneaky little tale of espionage, features some notoriously over-the-top scenes, but at the same time, that bizarrely heightened material is - as we later discover - there for a reason. Once the “oh, so that’s what’s going on” factor kicks in, it’s a decent little episode.
…And The Children Shall Lead is the much more affecting hour of the two, however, with the benefit of both a decent plot and a solid emotional core. Children is truly one of the third season’s top stories, with famous trial lawyer Melvin Belli (!) as the sinister “friendly angel” who has recruited orphaned children from a Federation colony to do his twisted bidding. And yeah, this hour also contains much that is over the top, but it’s still a good story, and a perfectly valid reason to seek out this volume of the original Trek.
