    I’m frankly stunned. Even at 1080 on my PC monitor, the improvement is remarkable.

    A piece of software called Topaz Labs Gigapixel AI was used to bring the opening five minutes of the 1996 TV movie from DVD resolution to 4K. I then went to see what else had been done by the same party, and…

    …the machine-learning colorization doesn’t interest me, but the upscaling is quite promising.

    I went to look up the software itself and found that it’s intended for still photos, so that means they’re all rendered frame-by-frame. The system specs required for the software aren’t insanely steep, but between that and the $100 price tag, it’s not something I’ll be trying anytime soon. So much for bringing Blake’s 7 or The Starlost up to 4K.
