Sure, maybe not the most polished fan film ever, but written by/with teachers, lesson plans included, intended for classroom use. Fan films as a force for good. [LINK]

Starbase Studios introduces the first ship in its educational fleet, the USS Grissom. Based on Star Trek: The Original Series, by Gene Roddenberry.

Join the crew, which includes a teen-aged cadet fresh from Star Fleet Academy, on its mission to explore planet L-197, which is a newly discovered planet in the Lyra System. But what starts out as a regular mission to determine suitability for colonization quickly becomes anything but routine.

Each of the 8 episodes in this series is approximately 20 minutes and touches on the subjects of Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Fine Arts, and Leadership. There is a list of lessons at the end of each episode; each will include a video introduction by one of the crew and printable lesson plans and materials. The lessons cover Common Core and STEM standards and can be modified for Advanced Placement or Special Education students.

I have to admit that I’m so in love with the idea that I can forgive a lot when it comes to the execution.
