At work, they’re talking about us each picking a Christmas song to put on this year’s holiday hold music. So do I pick one of Christopher Lee’s heavy metal Christmas carols, or go with the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society’s “A Very Scary Solstice” series, which includes such classics as “Do You Fear What I Fear?”, “Great Old Ones Are Coming to Town”, “I’m Dreaming of a Dead City”, and “It’s the Most Horrible Time of the Year”? Or maybe Christmas In The Stars?
That’s one bad thing about working for the government: no Christmas music, no Christmas celebrations, no Christmas parties, no Christmas anything. I remember going to a meeting one time and noticing that they had a “holiday” tree on display — couldn’t say “Christmas” tree, only “holiday” tree. Instead of ornaments it had candy canes hanging from the branches, and of course there was no star on top.
