…but apparently only if you’re actively playing Star Trek Online. The rest of you? Pfffft. [LINK]

From inside Star Trek Online you can order ANY of your favorite spacecraft to be shipped to your door wherever you are on the globe. Every ship is created in U.S.A. using the latest in full-color 3D printing.

Whether it is a Federation Cruiser, a Klingon Bird of Prey, or a Romulan Warbird, create a fleet of real life replica’s comprised of your favorite ships from Star Trek Online, complete with your customized styles, patterns, colors and more.

I hope there are more ship styles available than ugly-ass variations on the Defiant and Enterprise E. Really curious decision to limit their audience like that, though.

Nope, they mostly seem to be all variations of the Enterprise-E, just more stretched out. I’ve poked around for Federation starships on Google Images, a lot of them are from ST:O, and they often seem to be derivative of the original Enterprise, just made to look “badass”. There are other ships available, but most of them seem to be fairly crap. Nobody’s trying too hard to break the Starfleet design mould in the way a ship like the Reliant did in The Wrath of Khan. It’s all just more streamlined takes on the Enterprise design and lots of ugly designs that make FASA ships look okay.

Now, 3D printed FASA ships along the lines of the above? WOULD BUY.

People are 3D printing Star Trek all over the place so I would not be discouraged because this one group is restricting not only access but also which ships are printed.

    check it out:

    – This guy printed his own TOS Enterprise: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:64937
    – So did this guy: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8100
    – And him: https://3dprint.com/28960/starship-enterprise-3d-print/
    – Look! A whole bunch of them: http://www.yeggi.com/q/uss+enterprise/?s=tt

OK, some of those may be the same model but from a different web site (or all of the m), I didn’t vet the sites, just posted them. 😉

But you get my point, printing 3D Enterprises isn’t the problem, finding someone willing to print it for you might be. 3D printers are becoming ubiquitous but it might still be a while before you see them at your local Kinkos (or FedEx store).

I’ve heard that the Officeworks chain in Australia have 3D printers you can use in-store for a very large fee, do US stores like Office Max or Office Depot do the same thing?

I just don’t like most of the FASA starship designs. They looked like they hired one guy to do it all under a tight deadline. Some are clumsily designed, some are outright ugly. I like the YouTube channel Trekyards, they will sometimes do an episode about certain FASA designs, but mainly the least crappy ones.
