A Little More From The Farm: Day #236 – A Dairy Tale: The Three Little Pigs (2004)
Viewed August 24, 2006
A Dairy Tale: The Three Little Pigs is a short that is included on the Home on the Range DVD and features the characters from that film. The style is much more simplistic than the original film, not much more detailed than typical Flash cartoons found on the web. It is also very short, clocking in at around four minutes.
It finds Mrs. Caloway (Judi Dench) trying to tell the story of the three little pigs to, well, the little pigs of the farm. Unfortunately for her, she can’t get far into her traditional re-telling without interruptions from the others. Maggie (Roseanne Barr) seems obsessed with food. Grace (Jennifer Tilly) gets rather trippy with talk of aliens and things. And Buck (Cuba Gooding Jr.) quite naturally wants more action.
The interplay between the characters is as strong as it was in the original film and it shows that even they have potential beyond their initial appearance. Including a new short featuring a film’s characters is something that Pixar has been doing since Monsters, Inc. and it’s nice to see Disney giving it a try. Home on the Range was a disappointment at the box office (and it didn’t exactly build a following like, say, The Emperor’s New Groove), so this is likely the last look we will have at these characters. It’s nice that fans of Home On The Range get to see them one more time.
Note: If you’re wondering why there’s been so many animated films lately, I can’t help it. Ever since Cars came out (seen it four times so far), I’ve become somewhat obsessed with animation in general, Disney & Pixar animation in particular. So, fair warning, there’s going to be a good bit of it coming up.
Second Note: What’s with all the notes lately?
